I need help with my Ebook

I have finished writing my very first e book, including the sales page. I am excited but I know that is not even 10% of the whole scoop. Is it possible for me to have the sales page in a hosted word press blog and with a paypal pay button.

I have spent like three days on youtube trying to figure out how to use NVU and I just do not seem to get it. I have also been searching in the forum and I did not see any advice on that. I have also looked on hiring someone to do the site and the ecover, I cannot cover the costs and I am not even sure the product will sell. However I know how to set up a word press blog and I can buy a domain name.

I would really appreciate some advice.

Thank you,
Grace

yes, you can use Wordpress. There are a few salespage themes for Wordpress (paid themes that is), but you can also use another theme if you want to.

    Hi sande

yes i have seen many people place payment buttons with wordpress and make it work.

I would try and give nvu another go though - what is troubling you the most with it and we may well be able to help as most of us on here use NVU?

    kind regards

I can offer a free template from the artisteer program. I would need to know color choices, maybe the name of the ebook, or other details. Details like how many columns you would like and if you have header graphics you would like to use or include. I have some spare time and it won't take that long for me to build it.

The links in my sig show 2 blogs using the templates from artisteer program. Let me know if you would like to have me build one for you. I think a pm with details would be fine.

    Hi Sande,

There was an additional version of Nvu called Kompozer - it works the same but got rid of a computer crashing problem some people had with Nvu.

There is a fully featured set of tutorials for KompoZer (Nvu) at thesitewizard.com
    I am not an affiliate.

It is listed on the left hand side, about half way down his very long home page.

I was in your same situation a few months ago. I had an ebook and a blog, had only used WP (a newbie), had never used an HTML editor and wanted to design a sales page. I tried Kompozer but it was very frustrating to get a decent looking page. I tried to use a couple free WP sales page templates I found here on WF but never could get them to work.

I ended up editing my default "page" template to create a sales page template. The WP forum (wordpress.org) and general google searches were much more helpful than the Kompozer tutorials I found. It took some fiddling but removing the sidebar, footer and header (a little trickier than the others) and widening the page are was about all it took. In the end I ended up with a sales page that is similar to my blog theme and I am able to edit like other pages on my blog.

I added a "buy now" button linked to an eJunkie account very easily as well.

Hope this helps and I am sure many folks on here would be more than happy to help you tweak your page template.

I put a paypal payment button an a blogger blog to sell and abook and it worked fine. I did the delivery myself using a gmail autoresponse email to the buyers. It worked great and I only had to pay the paypal fees and the money went right into my account. It was simple. The downside is you can not do an affiliate program this way, at least I don't know how. PM me if you want details, I also posted how i did it here, so you may be able to find it.

    Good luck

Also, rather than going with just a Paypal button, think about using E-Junkie. I use them for just about everything.

You still get paid via Paypal but they store your ebook for you and will automatically deliver it to the buyer for you. They also keep track of all your transactions and provide an in built affiliate program.

They are very cheap with 1 week free and then $5 a month if you have less than 10 products.

Here you go: E-junkie Shopping Cart for selling downloads & tangible goods

Also, attached to this post is "simplesalespage.zip" which is a page template I use if I just want a very simple quick minisite. Anyone who wants to grab that is welcome to it.

It's a page template rather than a whole theme, so you can use it with any WP theme, even just the default one. All you have to do is unzip it and drop it into the theme folder of whichever theme you have active.

To use it, just create a new page and select "Simple Sales Page" from the page template menu. Add your copy and publish the page.

Then go into Settings > Reading and set the page you created to be the home page of your site. Hey presto, minisite.

The default colors are just some plain grey blues, but the color codes are all at the top of the actual page template. If you want to change the colors you can just update the css at the top, easy peasy.

For covers, there's a tonne of designers in the "For Hire" section that have mad design skills and charge less than $20 per cover. I wouldn't waste time trying to learn to do covers yourself when you can get tip top results from a pro for about the cost of a nice lunch.

So, that's buy now button, minisite and cover for about $25. Sweet.

I use Nvu sometimes. I find that it gets simpler to use the more you play with it. the problem I have when I upload it to a site it that there are extra characters contained inthe graphic that prevents the graphic from showing up properly. Once you upload the page.... I have a copy of child's play FTP that makes uploading a site relatively easy that I will send you the link for and you can experiment with it. If you have specific issues with NVU - post them here and I am sure there is a warrior that will be able to help. If you have a webpage that you like, you can copy and paste a template directly into Nvu and make changes to the template until you get the look and feel that you want. This is the best way to learn to use it. I wish you all the luck with your ebook. Haven't taken that step yet. But I am thinking about creating an ebook myself. But before I do, I have to walk in the valley.

Thank you all. I tried everything, I did something with dreamweaver, then Kompozer and then for some reason I could not have a photo showing in there. So I uploaded the Kompozer project into blogger and used ejunkie just to finish the whole thing ooh. Now I have not made any sale but I have for the first time in my life completed an ebook in one week. It feels good, I should do better next time with good looking site and all the good feeling. If only Google would reward hard work and not marketing....

Thank you so much Collins for your help.
