pull 10 letters out of your bunghole and add .com to the end

We need more background info to give any sort of answer to your Q. What are you buying the domain for?

I was just reading the OP and thinking to myself, what the hell is it they are building a site about.

      Then I read your comment.

It rather sums it up nicely what I was going to say, especially as their name is Overflow :-)

      Dear Overflow123,

You need to be more specific. Then you will get better help.

Your statement is a bit like going to Barnes and Noble and telling the lady at the counter that you want to buy a book, But nothing else.

    Hi Overflow:

Once you have an idea about your domain name you can use this page:

Domain Tools: Whois Lookup and Domain Suggestions

Go to the "Domain Search" tab and type in your desired domain name for example: golf.com

as that one will obviously be taken it gives you a list all the similar domains and if they are taken up or not. You can even see all the .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz/.us domains and if they are available or not.

    Hope that works for you!

Also try searching for the product or keyword you are using and see what domain names come up in the general search. It may help spark some ideas. Also another idea would be to do the domain search for your product model number if it is a physical product and try for a domain with that. Also try google hot trends if you are building a blog and use this info for the domain. I would say not to use people, but a product.

      Hi there

As already stated it help if you know what niche you are entering. First you need to do some keyword research and find out what keywords are getting a good amount of searches and also whether those keyword phrases have much competition.

A tip is not to worry too much about getting a .com (a lot of them will be taken already anyway). I have had a lot of success in search engine rankings with .info domain names.

Another tip is to try and get your name as a domain name as well so that you can build your brand.

Some people put hyphens between the words in their keyword phrase when used as a domain name. Personally I would not advise as it makes it difficult when speaking your domain name in a video or on an audio.

      Hope this helps

I own many thousands of domains and here's my advice:
    1. 15 characters or less
    2. .COM only
    3. No hyphens
    4. Easy to pronounce
    5. Easy to spell if someone speaks it
    6. At least one of your target keywords
    7. Ensure no trademark infringment (uspto.gov)
    8. If someone saw the domain and then went there they would see what they expected (i.e. - if I type in fluffypillow.com I'd expect to see "fluffy pillows" or at least "pillows")
    9. Expect that all good relevant domains are registered - if you have to buy one at aftermarket, then don't spend more than $500 until you know how to value them.

try not to use more than 4 words, make it easy to remember and let it give an idea of what your site's topic is about.
