Wordpress blog installation - Which is a better way?

Hi All

Recently I have just created a Wordpress blog on my main domain directory, so that is: www.mydomain.com/blog where {mydomian} is name of my main domain.

So I haven't installed the Wordpress on a domain specifically set for this purpose.

I will be linking the blog obviously to my main domain.

Is that a better way of creating WP blog for Search engine optimisation OR is it more effective for search engine optimisation that I create and install the WP blog on a domain name bought just for the blog.

Feedback much appreciated.

Regards

smak

I am by no means an SEO expert, but in doing keyword research and
finding WordPress blogs towards the top of the SERPs, I have found the
majority to not install using the blog subdirectory unless they had other
items on their domain, such as sales pages, squeeze pages and so on.

I honestly don't know if one is better than the other but let's face it, the
less that somebody has to remember in order to get to your blog (shorter
    domain name) the better.

I agree with Steven. Especially since you can easily have a WordPress homepage that doesn't look anything like a blog.

Everybody is right with their info here. I have blogs that are built with simple scripts from my hosting and an artisteer template that does not really look like a blog at all. Installs in the main domain will be less hard to find.
The only time I used a sub directory is to have a blog that was for membership only. I did not have much luck with it either. I like the dynamics of using a platform that is not static like a standard html website, hard to update. The blog platform makes it easier to keep updated and add new content.
You can use the sub directory model for landing pages, opt in pages etc.

Neither one is better than the other.

The work you do on your blog is what matters.

When you install a blog on your site... whether it be on the root, or in sub-directory.. it becomes a stand alone entity. The backlinks, content, structure etc. all need to be in good working order for it to perform.

Don't worry too much about the location.. even sub-domain rooted blogs can be strong with the right structuring and effort.

    Peace
