Anybody See This Odd PayPal Problem Before?...Can't Pay Via CC

I don't know what to make of it. I know it's nothing I've done in my PayPal
settings.

Got a PM from somebody trying to get something from me but can't because
PayPal says they can't make the payment with their credit card.

At first I thought, well, it must be their card. But then they told me that
when they tried to make another purchase from somebody else, they were
allowed to use their card.

Has anybody ever seen this before and if so, any idea what is causing this?

All my products are setup through DLGuard delivery system and all setup
the same way, so I can't imagine it's anything on my end.

Totally stumped.

    Hi Steve,

Do you know if the person who is buying from you is in the US?

I'm in Thailand and my Paypal account seems to get blocked somewhere around $100-$120 US. Once I've spent that much, I have to wait for those transactions to clear off the credit card before I can use the account again. I can get blocked from buying one product because it will put me over the limit but can still buy a cheaper product. None of this has been confirmed by Paypal but just what I have learned from trial and error (and buying too many WSO's).

Never ran into that problem. Has anyone else ever tried to purchase your products with a credit card rather than with their Paypal acct?

Here's what I would do. I would offer to send them a Paypal invoice for the product and then they should be able to pay with their credit card. You would then have to manually send the product to them.

      Steve,

It could also be they are near their limit on the card and the purchase from 'purchased from somebody else' was for a lesser amount. Your product may have put them past their limit.

Or they made that 'purchased from somebody else' first and then hit their limit.

      Who knows...

I do this as well. But, for whatever reason, it only works for the customer when I choose to send a "detailed invoice" (click "create an invoice" tab, then choose "create a detailed invoice" instead of the default "create a simple request").

One time I had a customer who tried 3 different cards after sending them a PayPal (simple request) invoice. As soon as I sent a "detailed" one, their card worked no problem. Since then, I've used the detailed invoice several times for people who are having trouble similar to what you're talking about in the OP and it has worked every time.

This works for people who don't want to pay from inside their existing PayPal account, and also if they don't have one and don't want to sign up for one.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you what makes the difference with the detailed invoice.

I don't know if that helps your situation but I thought I'd share that quirky invoice tidbit.

      Cheers
      Jay

I have never had a problem with Paypal and I have been with them for years. I would agree with Killer Joe, your customer might be at their limit on their card. Maybe have them try a different one...

    Hi Steven

Occasionally customers contact me to say that the credit card option is not available to them at PayPal.

I had assumed it was the country they were from rather than an issue with their card because they don't even get the choice of using a card from the get-go.

    Cheers,

    Steve,

Unless this has changed, it used to be that after so many credit card charges PayPal used to force the sign up for an account. I guess they figured if you were going to use them to buy stuff, then you needed to set one up.

Not sure if it's different now, but at one time that's how it work. It's what made me get my first one, a personal account.

    Thanks,

    John
