Help! How to install wordpress in the subdomain???

I have wordpress installed in the root directory.

The problem is that that blog is focused on 1 product that I am promoting.

Now I want to promote other products, but I don't want to do that on the same blog.

My question is how can I install another blog on the subdomain without overwriting the one that is installed on the root directory?

I did my best to explain. Hope someone can help me out.

Will the other blogs have different domain names? If so, just add the
new domains, create another db, and you should be good to go.

Can you have additional domains in your hosting package?

Did you look in their knowledge base or faq's? Or contact their support to
        ask?

I have an account with them and will have a look, as well.

If you have installed WP before it is done just the same with a subdomain/

Go to Fantastico and using WP see the drop down menu and install as you would on a regular domain.

Let me know if you need help ... I use HostGator as well

Very simple. Create new folder in your root name it. It is going to look like that ww.nameOfTheWebsite.com/Subdirectory
        new folder name = subdirectory
Now you need to create new database.
You need to log in in to your host control panel
Look for MySqQl database, just MySql or something like create new database
Click on it Now create database now you have to fill out fields
        Database Name
        User Name
        User Password
Host in most cases you just have to put in there" Localhost"

        write down all the info
upload all your Wordpress file to your subdirectory
After you do that just follow installation guide that should be included withing Wordpress Folder.

          What he said...

and if you want it in a subdomain instead of a sub directory
          (newdomain.mymaindomain.com instead of mymaindomain.com/newdomain)...

          Simply login to Hostgator cpanel.
Look for the heading "domains", and click the "subdomains" icon
Create your subdomain (you'll see how on this page, it's easy)
Hostgator will automatically create a directory for your subdomain in your main account. (you can now see it when you log in via FTP or File Manager in Cpanel)
This is the directory your new Wordpress installation will go into.

          Cheers

Follow the instructions given by SuiteJ. It really is that easy to set it up. I prefer subdomains over a sub directory. I haven't done a lot of subdomains but the ones I have done have been listed in Google pretty quick. Best of luck.

I have never installed WP in a subdomain but I have done installing WP in addon domain.

Installing WP in addon domain is quite easy. Just add your new domain to your hosting account and install WP using fantatisco (common feature in your cpanel)

    Hi,

Yes, you can do sub-domains. Are you able to do this with your hosting package? You should be able to set this up in your control panel, if you are allowed.

If you can, then you do a fresh install (new database) and go from there.

    Thanks,

    John

It doesn't show it, but my question was if it's possible to add another blog
to a subdomain and just create a new db for it. He answered 'yes' in his opening
    comment.

    (8:38:54 PM) Ken: Hi Nathan
(8:38:54 PM) Nathan Li: Yes, the system is able to do this.
(8:39:21 PM) Nathan Li: You would just create the subdomain and then install the blog onto the document root for the subdomain.
(8:39:30 PM) Ken: ok... so adding the subdomain and creating a new db will "not" affect the primary domain blog. Is that correct?
(8:39:38 PM) Nathan Li: That's correct.
(8:39:45 PM) Ken: cool. thanks a lot!

    Hi Katya,

In Fantastico from your Control Panel, just go to the Wordpress blog install area. Now instead of under the main domain, you will see a field box that you can name where you want to do a new install for that same domain. So lets say your new product is going to be "widgets2" then put that as the new folder name to do the new blog install too... it will then be created as www.yourowndomain.com/widgets2/

Hope that makes sense... the only thing I would comment on is you may be better off buying a new .com domain name that has a more general focus and install WP as the main page and then just do a NEW PAGE under the one WP blog. Aka www.yournewwidgetsreview.com and then just add new PAGES to that with each one focus on the product, so... yournewwidgetsreview.com/widget1.html ynwr.com/widget2.html etc etc. Make sense?

The reason being is that what happens if you want to touch base on 20-50 different products? Are you going to have 50 WP blogs ALL setup on one domain? I'm sure your bound to get confused at some point or create some files issues down the road by having dozens of WP under all these different folders.

Just a thought, and good luck.

If you are using Host Gator, then in cpanel, you can create a sub-domain and set the blog up in it. It will be set up in an additional folder, but by adding the sub-domain, it will show as sub.domain.com.

    Thanks,

    John

In the case of the OP the subdomain makes sense: she needs it for a different product and search engines see subdomains as another site (as opposed to subdirectories!).

You can have zillion subdomains on your domain (depending on how many are allowed by your host).

    Steps:
    1. in cPanel create a subdomain (do NOT redirect it anywhere)
    2. create a new database
    3. FTP - you will your "subdomain" as a folder; upload the WP package
    4. in your browser go to subdomain.example.com and start the install
    Done.

    Hi guys

just head over to fantasico like you would normally and instead leaving the root blank create the name of a folder you would like it in instead.

so if your subdomain is called niche just type niche in instead of leaving it blank.
