keyword research software?

In the past I have used google keyword tool external, keyword universe / omniture, and something called keyword domination all with good results. The problem is that the 'good' tools require subscriptions.

I bought the full version of Market Samurai today on a whim as it did not require a subscription, looked easy to use, and was recommended numerous times in other threads on this forum.

But how do the tools really compare to one another? What would you recommend? I find with samurai it is taking a lot longer to 'drill down' and get mini-niche keywords (I hope you guys know what I mean by that. ex. baby food vs organic baby food / frozen baby food etc).

Any advice on how to speed up creating good keyword lists?

I use market samurai and I am really happy with it. At the moment I've used up my bandwidth and so I'm on dial-up internet speed and it is just impossible to use it at this speed (and most other programs), but when I'm at full speed I don't think the speed at which it works is a problem, it doesn't really take that long.

One of the comments on the article I wrote for Wordtracker mentioned which allows you to create a list of keywords from a piece of content. Their tool uses the Yahoo! Term Extraction Tool, and also provides a few additional keywords.

Hello, if you have only used Markrt Samurai for a few days ,
their no way to have figured it out. it's not hard but
      there is a learning curve.

Spend 6 to 8 hours really putting it thru it steps and
you will be happy with your purchase.

Also, don't relie on only one keyword tool. I also use
Keyword Elite 2.0, that is not an affilite link. I'm just
      helping helping you.

I would start with Google keyword free tool and then
I would run those thru Samuari and then Elile 2.0

This advise will out you way ahead of your competitors.

Your competitiors are lazy, they will not put in this
      much work.

Google wonder wheel seems pretty cool for finding related search terms and drilling down into long tails.

I use Market Samurai, Traffic Travis, the Google line up and SEO Nuke....which sounds like overkill but often the results in one tool will contradict the others...and I find each tool lends itself to a different marketing approach.

Not very useful I know but check out wonder wheel....highly underrated in my opinion.

    Cheers,

    Jonathan

I highly suggest that if you have money then nothing is better than MS but if you have little money and cant afford to have it go for Google adword keyword tool.

I use micro niche finder and I'm very happy with it. I have not used market samurai so I can't do a comparison but I'm very pleased with MNF.

I will also have a look at the sites that are coming up on the first page of Google for my keyword term and not rely 100% on the numbers from any particular tool when trying to judge the strength of competition.
