Newbies - Why Aren't You Doing This Already? (seriously!)

Hi warriors,

This is directed to the wonderful folks who post here and some of customers and friends who email me often with these questions:

"I'm totally confused, what do I do? Where do I start?" and so on... I hope this little post answers it for you, if you have any questions, please let me know

In my opinion there are only 3 real ways to make a full-time living online:

1) Affiliate Marketing - where you become an affiliate of a product and receive a commission for referring sales

2) Product Creation - where you are creating the product and are the vendor

3) Services (consulting, freelance work, graphics, offline consulting so on...)

Paid surveys will not make you a full-time living, "stuffing envelopes" will not even make you enough to survive, and most importantly, we all know that not doing anything will get us no where - you need to sell something and get yourself out there.

Online entrepreneurship is no different from a brick-and-mortar store only much easier, faster and low-cost to setup!

So why are you stuck?

The answer is simple, we all worry about what DIDN'T work rather than what WORKS and work it like there's no tomorrow!

It comes from the society and corporate culture where no body is willing to step up and take responsibility as the focus is always on "mistakes", "blame" and the "past" while it isn't about what works!

I recently had the opportunity to meet the CEO of a large corporation and I couldn't believe it, 90% of the stuff never gets done not because people don't have the "skills" or "knowledge" or desire....

But rather...

It's simply the fact that most of us love to live in the past and not step up to the plate and take responsibility as they are afraid of the consequences!

Most people label perfectionism as a "great" thing but perfectionism is useless if you never really accomplish or complete anything.

For example, if Steve Jobs sat there being a perfectionist he would have never launched the iPhone as the first model had quite a few bugs. Even today, there is a huge room for improvement with the iPhone.

Here's a quote that I have on my wall and I think it might help you as well:

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in, forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day, you shall begin it well and serenely..." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

People are here to help you! I always ask questions and seek answers if I get stuck at something, there's nothing wrong with it. But I get the answer I seek when I'm looking for a specific answer.

It's similar to having a grocery list before you go shopping, if you go there without knowing what to buy, often times you will end up getting stuff that you don't need and forget the important stuff that you do need! (I can't remember the number of times I've done this!)

So there, you were given 3 methods that are proven to make money online. Now what are you waiting for? Pick one that suits you and learn as much as possible on those three and do something! Better yet, try to incorporate all 3 models into your business

Ask people questions if you are having trouble, but don't sit there being overwhelmed, there are a probably a million and one ways to make money online but it all boils down to the 3 I stated as above.

Tomorrow is a new day - live it!

Good post, Paul. I might add that in my book, it's hard to go wrong if you quote Ralph Waldo Emerson.

You make several good points. If a person is afraid of failure, this isn't the right business to be in. But if we think about it, failing is only a learning experience, and perfection doesn't exist. Make the most of each day, for that's all we have to work with.

I agree with what you say 100%.

All newbies need to narrow down their focus to the main thing and then work in that direction. For example, I decide that I will make money with affiliate marketing. Now, I will eliminate any projects that are not related to affiliate marketing. Then I will make up a plan for getting traffic to my affiliate link. For example, article marketing, PPC etc.

Then just work on what you have decided. Don't go off topic and don't just jump all over the place looking for information not directly related to your project.

Great post! This is what I am working on, narrowing down. So, I have decided to do some affiliate marketing on some of my blogs. Next question is, how or where do I go to find out about getting my blogs higher up in search engines? Any suggestions . . . ?

      Thanks,

I totally agree with you, mate. You learn and achieve more by doing the necessary actions, not by knowing them only.

You can have a business in one day, but not a successful one yet. It takes time and effort to make it successful.

So, be careful when you hear the so called 'Gurus' saying internet business cashing in massively in less than a day.

It may be true for them as they have spent the time and effort to get there. For newbies, it's just the beginning of a long and successfully journey.

      Best wishes...

Another saying that got me off the ground was that:

The folks that make it, don't yet know everything that can go wrong, so they just do it - and mostly nothing much goes wrong. Those that try and solve everything that can go wrong, never get past the (fictititious) problem solving stage, and so never get anything done.

The ones that aren't aware of the potential pifalls, handle whatever comes up, because they still have a clear focus on where they are going.

      Just my 2 cents worth.

Find a System that Works, and DUPLICATE IT.

That is the best advice I can give to newbies. I know when I first started making money online I tried to find the fastest way to make a ton of money fast, but what you really need to focus on is simply getting a decent amount of revenue coming into the door.

I started with affiliate marketing, and that led into providing services for others. Now I have my affiliate marketing campaigns running virtually on autopilot, and they bring me a nice residual income on a monthly basis.

I now primarily concern myself with consulting, because I actually enjoy the face to face interaction with clients. However, I would suggest that any newbie start with affiliate marketing and "free" traffic methods.

I like that part, was n't it Thomas Edison that instead of failing 2000 times in making a lightbulb, he'd found 2000 ways of how not to make a lightbulb, or something?

Good post Paul and you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that most newbies have been brainwashed into believing that IM success is 24 hour thing, by which time you'll have hundreds of dollars in the bank..unfortunately most people who come online are in that type of situation

Also its important to remember that its much better to focus on getting ONE thing right, rather than immediately jumping on 4-5 different strategies trying to make money quickly as that rarely works for newbies

Nice post, OP! These items could also go on your list of ways to make a full-time living online:

    4. Non-affiliate product sales (on eBay, Amazon, or your own website)

    5. Creating a popular website (a blog or a user-generated content site)

Yup. Today is a new day - live it!

There are many people with knowledge and more than half of them do not take action. I myself learned many different types of marketing, tried and of course as a newbie, not seeing a revenue right away, I don't stick to one method. Which I should've done.

    Definitely like this post

Those basically are the 3 ways to make money, and I definitely had that mentality about mistakes in the past. Still letting go some parts of it, but that is definitely one of the first steps to take (so I believe anyway ).

This is a serious example. You are absolutely right. It is like you were saying I have to buy something and it doesn't matter what.

I think it's fine when newbies learn and go from one thing to another to study, examine and find what would be the best way to boost their skills, but.... there is a BIG but. When you find something that you might be really interested in or it meets your way of life, you should immediately begin to focus on the things you want to buy at a store.

If you know what you want to buy, you suddenly know all the steps to be taken in order to get there. And this applies to IM as well. You set up a goal and go for the goal with absolute focus, and it doesn't matter if you wear a wrong color t-shirt.

Find out what your goal is and go for it.
