First Time Buying Domain Name Help Needed.

Hi!

I am about to buy my first domain name. For your knowledge, I have built few lenses, weebly and 2 blogspots. Now, I want to buy a domain name and web hosting so that I can link my before-mentioned sites to my own self-hosted site.

Also, I DON'T have my OWN product. What I am doing is affiliate marketing by means of article marketing.

Now back to my question, if I want to buy a domain name, should I create a domain name based on:

1. Product specific domain name?
2. Industry(niche) specific domain name?
3. General domain name?

Should I buy domain name from GoDaddy? Is there any other sites that I can buy domain name? Heard about NameCheap but am not sure about them.

Pls be informed that I am newbie.

Thank you.

    Hi

I would either go for an affiliate related one or start branding your own name.

Because if you go for your name if you are not happy with what you are doing later on you can change it to suit you.

    Kind regards

It kind of depends on what your "big plan" is.

If you want to spend a lot of time building out one big blog in a niche, then I would go for a more general name.

If you want to make a bunch of little blogs that are specific to a product or small sub niche than go with a product specific domain (but don't use any trademarked product name or you might end up losing the domain and all your hard work).

Personally I would stay away from godaddy. I use namecheap and they are great - way easier to use and navigate than Godaddy.

Is there any reason on why you stay away from godaddy?

I have moved away from GoDaddy as well as I was not happy with their support.. I now use Namecheap and they suit my requirements welll... One big benefit is that they provide free WhoIs guard with every domain purchase..

Regarding your original question, I think you should do some keyword research and try to find a domain name that has buyer keywords in it.. Google Keyword tool should suffice for this and you can find good keywords in a matter of minutes...

I have heard lots of people say to stay away from GoDaddy, but they work just fine for me to be honest. I have had a few issues that I called customer support for and they helped about as much as I could ask someone to help. Maybe I just got a good customer rep though.

But like mentioned before, if you are affiliate marketing for certain products in a niche, I would say find a domain name that is related or in that niche.

I would suggest you go for a niche specific name. Do some keyword research and try and find a phrase you can use. From experience I've seen that having your target search term in your domain name can make a big difference to your ranking on Google.

I would avoid a product specific name in case you are infringing on someone's copyright by using the product name.

I always use namecheap for registering domain names and a separate host.

I can't speak from experience, because I've never used Godaddy, but I've seen others say that if you search for a domain name but don't register it - when you go back again you will find that they have registered it and put advertising on it.

      Namecheap don't do that.

If you can, try and get a keyworded domain. ( Find your main keyword and see how close you can get to that exact phrase in a domain name. Use -'s if you need to )

It will help you with your SERP's
