Looking for a freelance site to use. Considering oDesk. Thoughts/suggestions?

Hey Guys and Gals,

As mentioned, I'm looking for a solid freelance site to find potential service providers. I've registered an account at oDesk so far. Their site looks pretty good to me. Are there any concerns I should have about this or other freelance sites (scammers, support, etc)?

Also, in regard to my oDesk account... do those of you who may have an account there as well know if you can utilize both account types?

In other words, I signed up as a "buyer", but I would also potentially like to offer services as well. Perhaps even set up a provider profile. Is this possible?

Thanks!

-Mike

    Hi mike

i have had great success with odesk.com and have been using them for a few months now. My favourite worker that i managed to find was someone that loads my tweets onto socialoomph for me and other twitter related tasks. She does an amazing job and only charges $1.67 an hour for the pleasure.

They are very hard working and you can check their work diary to see what they have been up to on your time.

Ive also found that its important to get people that have a decent level of english for certain jobs but for things like bookmarking you could train anyone on there for that task.

    good look with it

    kind regards

I appologize for the belated response. However, I just wanted to ask something, since you are familiar with oDesk.

When you load your credit card information, how do they work the payments? In other words: Do those whom are working for you decide what to charge and WHEN to release the funds to themselves? That doesn't sound right, so I don't think this is the case.

Could you, or anyone who is familiar, explain how this process works on oDesk? I'd greatly appreciate it. Sorry if I've overlooked the obvious.

      Regards,

      Mike

I have always found Elance to be an excellent overall Freelance Network. Elance is "full service", and provides Escrow services and will arbitrate the occasional provider dispute. Minimum projects are $50, and the market seems to be more "upscale", often charging more than similar sites like ScriptLance.com. However, the Elance website, provider reviews, and overall marketplace make it one of the best freelance networks around.

I have not used ODesk in depth yet, but from my experience posting a project once I can tell you that their default e-mail contact settings involve them sending you 15 e-mails a day for the first couple days after posting a project. I'm sure there is a way of turning this annoying feature off, but I haven't spent enough time finding the off switch yet...
