Domain Name With Manufacturer / Comapny Name in it.

Hi.

If I was to by a domain name such as amazontravelbooks.com, refer visitors to Amazon, would they have a problem with it?

Also what would have happen if I had the name of a company say Dell for e.g. in the domain and sell products they specialise in without refering to them directly would there be an issue?

Thanks.

Jim.

YES - never ever ever ever use a well known trademarked term in your domain - period.
That is...unless your use of it is CLEARLY not even close to that trademarked term.

    Examples:
amazonresort.com (for a resort in the amazon) - probably ok, but you never know if they'll come after you

amazontravelbooks.com - do this and expect a letter from their legal team, a UDRP, and possibly even a date in court

As a rule of thumb.....just avoid any well known trademarked terms until you're able to get legal advice on the use of a name.

You should study the affiliate terms closely before registering such domains. Many companies mention in their TOS that affiliates cannot use domain names having their trademark names.. Some of them allow this but it is always better to confirm first...
