RSS FEEDS - I need an explanation

Hi Guys!

I haven't understood very well how RSS Feeds help on getting traffic.

Why do we need to submit the RSS feed to directories? and....Which are those directories?

Does this serve for visitors outside the IM niche?

I appreciate your help on this because I don't get it.

Thanks!

    I really don't get it.

My target audience won't be searching on RSS directories.

How Can I benefit from submitting my RSS Feed to several directories if my target audience uses the internet for Google, Facebook and email?

Nobody does. RSS feeds are for machines, not for human eyes.

I won't touch the 'submitting' part... but the rest, just to demonstrate the usefulness of RSS

In Google, if they have an account - they can use the (feed)Reader and follow your blog. With so many servoces offered by G. almost everybody has a account.

Facebook. You can import your blog post into your FB account (as Notes) and your target audiences can read it, click to go to the blog - all thanks to RSS

Email. Newer email clients can get RSS feeds and display them for the users.

An example. I use Goggle Alerts (1 msg/day) for a ceratin keyword I am interested. I get news items and blog posts.
In the email I receive there are the short excerpts from the blogs with a link to the full post. All that thanks to RSS...

      RSS is good

Because it helps you build backlinks, which helps you get better ranking in Google. Plus, there are a lot of people that follow blogs through their feeds if they are interested in what they found when they visited.

Another advantage of using RSS feeds is that they are automatically updated when you publish new content... So if you have a lot of RSS subscribers they would be immediately notified that you have published some fresh content on your blog.. Result- Instant traffic and monetization..

People need content for their website so many use sites like RSS directories to find content which they can then use to post to their blogs.

If people choose your feed to generate content for their site you can get both backlinks and traffic from their site.
