Wordpress Help Needed

I made a weightloss site and i use the usual structure with pages and blog posts.

I have a sales page and pages for contact us, privacy etc.

The blog posts (articles) appear on the sidebar and are accessible like
mysite.com/article-name-whatever/

I want to make this blog more interactive and provide means for users to provide their stories and start discussions.

But i want that "interactive blog" be separate from the articles.

If i make a page "blog" and direct all the blog entries/articles to this page, well then it mixes articles and blog entries which i dont want.

A forum (at this point) would be overkill. I simply want like an additional means for a second blog while still being able to post normal articles and site content on the "other" blog. I hope you understand what i mean? Any idea how i could do this?

Edit: hmmm.....maybe i can make a simple category and then split posts like that....let me try this....

You could have used pages for your seperate articles, that way your articles wouldn't mix up with your blog. If it's a fairly new site you can still change it without loosing your links.

How about a different platform for the articles? Like expression engine or something.

    2 plugins:
    advanced category excluder
    tdo-miniforms

    - the miniforms let your visitors to submit a "post" from the frontend (you can define a default cat for them and whether you want to approve or not)
Now, we have visitors post in category "whatever"

    - with the other plugin, you can set which categories to show on the index, search, archives etc.
Obviously, you would exclude the submitted posts from showing on your main/home page and provide a link in the sidebar to that specific category

    Would this help?

Ok, i DID install a forum...i didn't bother with SMF or PhPP, but i found this "Simple Press" wordpress forum plugin...and it is starting to look very good! I figured if i want really interactive this might be the best solution.
