Is there a way to see more than 20 results for the hottest trends of the day? Thanks! |

they used to but I think they lowered it to just 20 which is kind of annoying. I remember about 6 months ago they had a list of 100 and I have it bookmarked but now its just 20. I think they only show the top 20 now.

For those who are annoyed that the trends went from 100 to 20, don't be. Here is why and also why it actually makes the trends more useful. The reason the trends were dropped is because Google saw that there were people who were manipulating the system. (No surprise there) Through black hat methods, they would artificially create trends that didn't really exist. Then...they would put up sites for these trends that infected PCs with trojans and other nasty viruses. Google figured out who these folks were and what they were doing and knocked those trends out of the system. Now, the trends you get are actually ones that people are looking up. The quality of the trends goes up which means the chances of you actually making money with them goes up. My success rate per trend went from 40% to close to 70% since the changes. This was the best thing Google could have done. |

I just noticed this "trend" today. In theory, you may be right, but allow me to illustrate the problem by pasting the current list of trends. 1.kleen energy middletown ct 2.middletown explosion 3.middletown ct power plant 4.connecticut power plant explosion 5.middletown connecticut 6.super bowl 2010 kickoff time 7.saints colors 8.superbowl start time 9.buffalo chicken dip 10.connecticut news 11.when does the super bowl start 12.what channel is the superbowl on 13.samson and delilah 14.superbowl kickoff 15.superbowl kick off time 16.watch superbowl online 17.7 layer dip 18.super bowl prop bets 19.who dat saints song 20.puppy bowl 30% (6 items) of the list are related to the Kleen Energy Power Plant explosion. 55% (11 items) are related to the Super Bowl. 10% (2 items) are for recipes - most likely related to the Super bowl. 5% (1 item) is for Samson and Delilah. So there are basically 3 or 4 topics, not 20. If they could find a way to sort that out, then a list of 20 may not be so bad. Anyway, these things can happen, so those who relied on it will have to find alternative solutions. All the best, Michael

Michael, I have been following Google Trends for over 2 years now. Your list above...that's how the trends work. That's how they have always worked. When something BIG comes up, almost the whole list is filled with related topics. Widdling the list down hasn't changed that. All it's done is gotten rid of the garbage trends that forced me to have to be very careful about what sites I went to. If that's all there is, then anything under that 20 is probably so mild as far as traffic, that it's not worth putting up and thus, would be a waste of the marketer's time to pursue. And as far as it being theory of mine, it isn't. This was confirmed by Google as to why it was done. If you like, I can try to dig up their blog post or wherever it was they posted it. It's been so long since, I don't remember and didn't bookmark it.

Hi Steven, What I meant by "thoery" was that in theory it's a good change. Not that the reason it changed was theory. Sorry for being ambiguous in that regard. Funny how communication happens here sometimes, isn't it? ![]() All the best, Michael |

a replacement for the lost trends and not so many duplicates or similar trends. Unfortunately, this is the way it's always been. Google doesn't have a filter other than weeding out the garbage trends. But if a trend is legit, it doesn't matter if there are 10 related trends to it...it will stay on the list. It's just the way they do it, and I do understand why. When I first started testing this, I found that the trends towards the bottom of the list produced almost no traffic, while the first 30 or so usually did fairly well. Honestly, I never saw the point of a top 100 to begin with but hey, that's what Google had. I think they finally realized that there just weren't that many good trends out there and thus, reduced the list. As I said, as a result, my success rate (the number of trends that make me money) has gone from 40% (in the old days) to close to 70% today. So even though there are fewer trends, and on some days many that are related or almost the same (just a word or two different) the overall quality of the list is much better. Anybody using this as an income model the last 2 years certainly has to have seen the improvement. Would it be nice if there were more quality trends? Sure...but I seriously doubt that's going to happen, not as long as the black hatters insist on ruining it for everybody else.
