Domain Secured, Now on to WP

Okay guys & gals,

I've got the domain name, and it's set up on my hostgator account.

WP is available via Fantastico, so if I've nothing on the site yet, do I just hit install?

I want it to be just like a regular web site.

I believe that they also have a tutorial on this. It is so simple with fantastico. If you make a mistake, it also will uninstall the blog for you too. Just try it out. Playing with the interface is the best way to learn.

Make sure the installer is up to date. You should not be installing any version prior to 2.6.2 or you risk your site being compromised through known security vulnerabilities. You'll have to upgrade again in a few weeks when 2.7 comes out, so you might as well learn to install it yourself from the wordpress.org site anyway.

    Pete,
Go to fantastico in your cpanel and locate wordpress. Then fill out the information and install. It will ask where you want it installed.

After install check back with fantastico to see WP is updated, if not it will give you an optionto auto update the install for you.

    Pete,

    James is right.

After you fill out your info and click to install, a screen will appear asking if you want your information emailed to you. I would seriously take their suggestion and have a copy sent to your mailbox.

    Thanks folks,

Got it set up (well, installed is more like it,) now all I have to do is figure out how to put AdSense in there so I have a chance to pick up a little change.

Check outwordpress widgets. I'm fairly sure there is at least one there to help with Adsense.

If you want your site to look like a website not a blog, use pages not posts in WP. That's how I do our village website.
