Tip for EZA Authors

Hi all,

I'm a stats junkie, and it always kind of bothered me that I wasn't getting a lot of Author Profile views at EZA. I never figured having an author photo was a big deal. Boy, was I wrong! I added one a few months ago (after going over 3 years without one.... D'oh!), and since then I've seen a big increase in the number of profile views as a percentage of total article views.

You might wonder why that matters. Well, if you play it right, profile views can be a nice secondary source of traffic/leads. Obviously, your resource box links in each article will be the prime traffic senders, but your public profile can also add visitors.

I don't have exact numbers handy, but a conservative estimate is that I've seen about a 50% increase in profile views since adding my photo. It's definitely worth doing.

    I've seen similar increases.

    When I first started AM, I did not carry a picture. When I noticed 95% of the high profile authors had pictures, I decided to add mine. I did not keep the stats, but have noticed an increase as well.

      Yeah, I think it's one of those things that you smack yourself in the forehead for not seeing before. It makes sense that it would matter, though, since part of what most of us are doing with AM - other than getting traffic - is building a reputation. Putting a face to the words helps.

    I haven't added any photo to my account but will be doing if it is really increasing profile views.

    I heard we should not use the same picture for two accounts we have, is that true?

      I've seen it before about adding a photo and I still haven't got round to doing it but will do soon.

      What do you suggest for people using a pen name on EZA?

      You know what, I haven't looked at the TOS, so I might be shooting myself in the foot here, but I include a couple domain names in my extended bio. Not links... just the text location of a couple of my prime domains. I get steady traffic, which is why profile views matter (beyond building reputation).

      What do you suggest for people using a pen name on EZA?
      I've struggled with this one. I don't use one now, but I admit to having used free stock photos for pen name bio pics. I guess if you can see past the minor ethical considerations, it's fine. Just be careful. Use photos you have legal rights to use. I mean, look, you made up the person, why not the photo? Man, I'm gonna get bashed for this. I can see it coming. LOL

      Don't laugh... I just signed up as an author yesterday and posted my bio and pic today. Just a little slow on the uptake. Also published my first article. Still pending....
