PayPal Suspends Personal Payments to India - PCWorld Business Center

Didn't notice if it was personal accounts only - or also business accounts. If only personal, upgrading the account might help.

Even my account is in negative balance and my credit card has expired too, otherwise I could have got funds from it.
Wanted to do a wso to get my account in positive balance but I dont have any money now
and dont know if the payments I receive will be reversed or not.

I hope the issue gets resolved fast.

I am now thinking of going with something like 2checkout system, but most of the buyers want paypal.

    OK.

Here's the resolve as sent to me by Paypal.
It works. I've already used it.

    Dear Larry Combs,

Your payment of $35 has been returned to you. If you sent the payment with a bank account, the funds will be returned to your PayPal balance. If you paid with a credit card, the amount will be credited back to your card.

We returned the payment to you because we have stopped allowing personal payments to be sent to or from India.

If this was a payment for a purchase of goods or services, and not a personal payment, then you may resend the payment to the seller by following these steps on the PayPal website: (a) click the Send Money tab, (b) select "Goods," and (c) provide a shipping address.

If this payment was a personal payment, such as a gift to a friend or family member, then we request that you find another payment method until we restore personal payments to and from India.

We are trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and we're sorry for any inconvenience.

    Thank you,

    PayPal

It probably is a temporary measure but must a total pain to deal with. Everything I've seen about it refers to new laws passed in India. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to operate a payment processor internationally where the laws passed by each country must be included for users.

I would expect a resolution as soon as possible as paypal does a lot of business in India.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Yeah getting paypal to work abroad, esp in south east asian countries, is very difficult..not sure if its just to control potential scammers or security issues so that's why if you have relatives in europe or north america just use their address (if they so allow it) as it is much easier that way.

    The laws aren't "new".

They are simply being enforced with much more strength.

If a payment processor knew about these laws, and we have reason to believe that they did.... then they had a duty to stakeholders and customers/users to navigate them, before this whole thing got into gear.

I heard about this, I feel bad for indian businesses. Law or not it seems like this could have been prevented. It's basically a theft of services for everyone that lives in India? This is ridiculous and I have a feeling paypal knew about this coming up and reacted late to it.
