Community builder and moodle?

OK, I asked about dedicated servers, and didn't get much response, but let's try THIS!

For the moment, I'll continue with my old server.

I FINALLY installed Joomla, which took a rebuild of apache and php. 8-(

php.net and developers can't make up their minds how to access mysql! I worked with a program several years ago that used a BUILT IN method. The next version got rid of that and included ANOTHER method, and now joomla wants ANOTHER method. So they have had about 6 methods since I started using PHP!!!! I hope MY software still works. I'll have to try it with the latest revision. I have a library that works with PHPv4, and another that DID work with PHP5. They are now up to PHP 5.3.1.

NOW, when I researched the joomla <-> PHPBB bridge, I find that a product called "community builder" actually has an improved joomla with a number of patches, and a forum that is, in some respects, BETTER than phpbb. SO, I think I am going to go with "community builder". Does anyone have any advice to the contrary?

That leaves integration with moodle! Does anyone have a better idea?

hi just fyi community builder is actually an addon for joomla, it expands the user side of joomla and does not come with a built in forum.

you can use joomla install community builder and then easily add a forum/messageboard that integrates the two seamlessly - i personally like the one found at kunena.com

i am not familar with moodle however there does appear to be bridge that will allow you to integrate joomla and moodle...

    this is the link:

There are also some joomla native components that do pretty much the same thing such as Joomlearn. I think there are some free ones, as well.
