Yahoo Answers - Is it really a good place to sell?

Is Yahoo Answers really worth the time? I mean has anyone here ever really made any significant money from YA?

I feel like it's a waste of time. I just started using it a couple months ago and haven't got any sales from that method.

What are your thoughts or experiences?

I've heard of people making sales with Yahoo Answers in the past, but it seems as though the demographic - mostly teens - wouldn't be very profitable.

I'd also be interested to know if anyone is making money with Yahoo Answers in 2010.

You can find visitors there, not buyers. Though the potential is high, yet, competition doesn't let us win there.

Yep, that's it exactly. I still get a steady stream of traffic from a few questions answered a couple of years ago on an account that eventually got banned.

What's the point of getting visitors if you can't sell them anything?

Haven't tried yahoo answers myself, because I think I will only attract a bunch of freebie seekers. Plus, heard you can get easily banned since they are not that very fond on promotions.

You are obviously choosing the wrong questions to answer!

Tip: Get your answer there in the top 3 answers! Then even if it's not chosen as the best answer you will get traffic longterm (more than if you answer last).

There are alot of freebie seekers however there are also 'real' buyers there too...and alot of them! Just you have to know how to approach them.

Yahoo answers actually encourages promotion but not spamming (yep there is a difference)... it even says so directly in their TOS surprisingly.

How many answers do you post daily? Quality along with Quantity is the key.

Also, which niche you promoting? Try different niches if you are not having success with the niche you currently promoting.

I post enough answers to have gotten sales by now. The product is in the health/skin care niche.

I get good conversions for the product through other means like articles and PPC but Answers is disappointing.

Like I said I get lots of traffic from YA but they don't convert and this seems to be the same story from alot of other people from what I hear.

So why don't you tell us your experiences with YA. You speak as if you're having success with it, is this true?

the great thing about the YA is that it really fast get index in the first page the is all i know, about selling it really slow coz not convert to buyer as the traffic is not quality.

Of course, it works, but the important thing is how you are using? What I am doing is..
I use googe trends to know the hot topic of the moment. Then I will choose a product from clickbank or CPA offer relating to hot trends. buzz.yahoo is also a good place to know the hot niche.

then I will prepare short answers with my affiliate link which is clocked, and paste it to the relevant questions asked in yahoo answers. I will repeat the process for at least 10-20 related questions.

after two days my clickbank sales would be more than $100, sounds good no? try it

      Hey netbank
i believe the aff line is not accept in YA, I not sure coz i redirect to my blog as my blog focus on the weight lose niche. that is how i do. If just redirect to merchant sale page i will try to use it???is that your way.??

my question is you use googe trends to know what popular, then go to clickbank to choose product, then go to buzz.yahoo to find the question, prepare short answers with my affiliate link which is clocked-- you have hide it using tinyurl or any other service?
about the short answer what did you prepare? is the answer you post is the same for all the question?

You can use YA in multiple ways ..

You can use it for SEO (works out pretty well for
    sniping out buyer keywords)

You can use it to answer questions in your niche
and drive traffic. The problem with your process
is probably 1) Your offer is not very good 2) you
don't have a compelling landing page.

The only thing I would say when using Yahoo Answers for any type of traffic generation purpose it to ensure that all answers are relevant and meaningfull otherwise you are in danger of getting your account suspended as I have seen it many times and I know many will think this is obvious however it is very surprising the level of people who do not know it

Funny thing YA, you read about kids with 10 kinds of problems etc and wonder what's the average age of users though, I had almost all my answers voted the best, I still got banned 3 times You have to use stealth techniques and look for the most popular areas stats.

Give in depth long answers which you have done your homework on and you can get traffic from it. You can also get niche ideas from what questions folk are posting..I tried real hard with homemade dog food for a while in the pet section, now I just laugh at myself.

I have used Y.A and have made sales. Here is the problem the average user is 15 years old. Also depending on your niche the moderators will suspend you without notice. Even at level 5 they will suspend or terminate you. If you have something that would help teens or young people under 25 it is good in my opinion
I was very successful recently at it in a short time

Alot of people ive helped i always start with creating a site and then driving traffic via yahoo answers.

You don't just have to link them to a $27 or whatever product that will solve all their problems which is niche related but probably not at all what they were looking for.

Often it can just mean you can increase your sites adsense income... get optin's... and of course sell to them but later!

A few people i have seen also using it just to brand themselves as an expert in a niche and it does help but making money is why i use it. Plus it's instant and lifetime traffic.

Yahoo answers is about like any other cold traffic source .

In my situations I find it easier to build a list from the traffic than cold sale .

15 year olds have no problem using daddy's credit card if you understand what they are interested in and make sure your go to the questions aimed at buyers .

Sports niches are always a winner because you can offer them something tha is useful, they are going to buy anyway and not be a creep for selling a 15 year old crap.

Troy actually according to quantcast the majority of people are aged 18 to 34 who visit yahoo answers. It may be that the people who actually use yahoo answers to post questions or post answers are of a younger age range but the people who actually visit the site and read the questions and answers and of course are going to be clicking your links are 18+ and so more than likely have a credit card of their own.

Nah don't worry at all, it's hard writing nicely unless you use the smiley face all the time and even then i could be calling you all sorts of names while writing this and yet the smile makes it all ok... especially a bigger one

Sometimes in niches it's good to get competition... once im dominating a niche succesfully i often give out hints and tips to choose that niche over a period of time and then its amazing how many more sales i make because of that as they just end up providing more traffic for the niche which comes to me

Yahoo Answers works if you use it in the right niches. I constantly get traffic from questions I answered months ago.

As far as getting banned is concerned, you shouldn't be concerned about getting banned. You should consider it a right of passage to get banned!

If you don't want to get banned from YA, then answer every question thoroughly and thoughtfully. Don't just say "hey man go here...they have what you want." You will eventually get banned if you do this.

When you are answering questions there, you need to answer everything as if you truly want to help them with their problem.

I have several accounts there, and I answer every question with at least a one paragraph answer. All of my accounts are level two accounts, and I haven't been banned.

If I did get banned (and I expect it to happen one day), who cares?!!! Create another account and start over again. Even if you do everything right, you are likely to get banned sooner or later at some sites. That is just the nature of internet marketing. You can't always be concerned about getting banned. Unless you are making a lot of money with that account (such as with adwords or adsense), then getting banned is not a big deal.

Also, link your answer to an article, and not to a sales page. It could be a blog with affiliate links, but do not link directly to a sales page.

Lastly, don't use Yahoo Answers for the IM niche. You tend to get banned a lot faster if you promote IM in Yahoo Answers.

I have used Yahoo Answers in the past and I have made some sales with its traffic. If you genuinely help people and refer them to useful resources, you can succeed. It gets indexed fast but also drops in the SERPs soon. After a week or two there is no traffic. You need to keep answering constantly provided that there is a good audience. Posting the questions yourself and then answering them yourself is not something I would recommend.

I used to recruit people to my Traffic Swarm account among other free traffic sites. I wrote a blog post (see below) about my experience with YA's. Would I do it again. Maybe, but it takes time to build a following and credibility. I would do it if I had a lot of spare time. It is so easy to get a new YA account that if you get suspended you just sign up for another one.

It has worked for me. Of course as others have mentioned here, it all depends how you are using it. I think you need to reconsider your strategy. I know for a fact that if you ONLY concentrate on answering questions related to your niche and you always make reference to your site, you can be blocked by yahoo and be accused of spam. I am not exactly sure as to what and how they determine someone is spamming. Yet, I use this method like forums to increase backlinks. Yet it has generated some sales.

I guess results are pretty individualized and it all depends on the person and the site.

It seems to me that YA's is going the way of Craigslist. In CL your ads get flagged when you include links. In YA's people click on the abuse button.
In any "make money online" category if you link to legitimate clickbank sales pages you get suspended but if you link to the free scammer turnkey "systems" that recruit for their downlines it is accepted.
It is run by newbies and if you're not nice the ones doing the recruiting click on "abuse" real fast. Not worth it in the "make money online" category unless you want to signup for new accounts continuously.
The irony of this is my "best answers" score. It was high compared to others and I continued to get Best Answers even after my account was suspended.

You can't pitch a sale on Yahoo Answers, that equals instant ban. What you can do is use creative ways for search engines to find a question with your answer, with your answer source containing a link to a website that could attract visitors. I have an answer from last year bringing me about 100 unique visitors a day.

I quite like Yahoo Answers and agree with JonMills.

I use it to determine what the major issues are in the weightloss niche. Get alot of best answers as well as followup questions from the Asker which makes you feel pretty good.

I don't just put my URL in the "Source Box", I put a link to a relevant article on my site.

I also answer questions in the Marketing and Business sections where I know I am dealing with older folks and so to get a Best Answer there is nice. And sometimes, I don't provide any source at all, I just answer so it does not appear that my purpose there is for traffic.

My posts are mid-length and personalized to the Asker.

And because the questions are consistently being asked, they rank high in the search engines for the keywords. I use Google Alert for specific keyworks and YA ALWAYS shows up.

You can definately see the posts that are just trying to promote their cleanses and **** berries and how they are still on there is beyond me!

    Cheers,
    Terri

This is certainly a good discussion. Yahoo answers may work for some but you really need to know your target market. But then that is true in selling any product. Do your research and know who the buyers are. As the saying goes "Don't mine the gold, instead sell the picks and shovels."

I have tried YA but I don't think it is worth time. The main problem is the traffic can't convert.

I feel like it's a waste of time. I just started using it a couple months ago and haven't got any sales from that method.

What are your thoughts or experiences?
It certainly is a waste of time

    Think of it this way...........

Either - spend time adding content to YOUR site

    OR

Spend time adding content to THEIR site

    What do you reckon?

I agree with you Cash. In fact, i used to believe that its is an easy way to market products that has a solution to the peoples questions.Well...I was wrong. I have wasted a lot of time spending around answering other's questions in a genuine way, of course. Wish i had spend that time writing articles or adding contents on my sites.
My personnel opinion is that, though I might be wrong, Yahoo answer is a thing of the past.its not that effective anymore.

I used to make quite a few sales selling one of my weight loss programs on Clickbank via Yahoo Answers, but there are far better ways of promotion that are no where near as time consuming and BORING!

People of all ages visit YA. It is a great if you know how to do it properly and yes quantity is a huge factor. I find getting someone to answer around 200-300 answers churns out the best return. Make sure you bookmark the YA page and also build backlinks to it. Getting the best answer is crucial if there are other people with links answering.

Why would you even waste your time backlinking the page and bookmarking it?

I would stay away from Yahoo Answers. In my experience it is just not worth the time to provide a quality answer, and then link to your website or blog.

Can it make you sales? Yes. However, there are so many other ways to advertise products that will make you more money with less effort.

I agree with everyone else. Hardly worth the time. I spent a few weeks answering questions (and relevant answers too, was selected best answer on many of the questions) and I might have got 5 visits from yahoo answers all together. Definitely more fruitful ways of drawing traffic.

I thought I was doing well getting followers the first week, but high school mentality seems to be the norm there.

YA is great for certain niches. I have had some success, but many failures too. Like anything else, it takes time and practice to get it right.

Yahoo answers is a good traffic source. But as far as sales.. hmm i'm not so sure yet, Make sure you link to a good landing page and not just an affiliate page because its pretty easy to get banned if you do

Yes it works, I get 2000+ visitors from Yahoo Answers.

Here is a video I did on my blog about how to market on Yahoo Answers.

I have seen SOME sales over the years come directly off YA but nothing that as worth my time. Usually when I'm YA I'm there to give back, answer questions, help folks and connect with them. I virtually never link back to anything that I offer.

I think yahoo mail user is at the top position from others (MSN,gmail, aol) still and the users look for their search in yahoo answer.
There is no doubt that there is also a market.

    Thanks
