How to price a website prior to selling?

If there's one thing I have yet to be decent at, it's pricing my websites prior to selling. I have been tossing the idea around lately about a wordpress site of mine. I haven't used flippa before but was thinking about trying it out.

Here are the stats of the site since I set it up.

Site is only a pr1 and has never been heavily promoted. Most of the traffic in the beginning were direct type ins. Michael Jackson related and while it is a long domain, it was the hottest longtail keyword surrounding his death.

What would use as a starting price for such a site?

You can base your price on the site earnings usually X 10 to 24 months earnings. You can base your pricing there, plus other factors such us traffic, content, design, and how old the sites it is.

24 months is more like it, but suggesting 10 months worth of revenue is absolute BS. You should onsell your site at 2-3 years worth of earnings.

    Is it actually earning money???

If so, then like mentioned above, you would usually base a price on 10 - 24 months earnings.

it makes a small amount. Some of the earnings I won't be able to track and that sucks since I didn't separate my campaings from other sites. Sites I can tally up earnings from is adsense, NB and amazon. I;'ll do that now and see

Just try to think about the best price that you would be happy to accept for it. Perhaps you want a quick sale or you really want to get top dollar for. There are a lot of factors to take into account and the most important is the sites revenue.

If it's not making any money, I wouldn't want to buy it. Michael Jackson's death will probably pull less and less traffic over time. You weren't able to monetize it at it's peak, and now the traffic is declining.

$3,105.90 just doesn't sound right imo.

Actually the michael jackson comes and goes over the last couple of months. Earnings have went down lately but most of it is user error. I'm not very good at monetizing sites yet.

I'm not asking what you guys would pay for it, I'm asking if it was yours what is the price you'd want out of it..

If it was mine what I would want for it doesn't really matter. It is what someone is will to pay for it that counts. If you want to sell it, that is ALL that counts. If you don't care whether you sell it or not then you could say you want $10M for it.

I am not sure but I find the quote part of your post a bit insultive.

Many site flippers are also buyers as well. I have bought more site on flippa.com recently than I have sold ( not in terms of price though ) yet I am a site flipper.

Anyway, back on topic. I will say anything between x4 to x24 of monthly earning is good - depending on where the traffic is coming from. You want to make sure you buy it Now Price is around x12 or above while you reserve should be x10 or a little above.

I do this cos some site buyers can be crazy especially when they want a site in a particular niche and they want it desperately.

One of my friends ( a warrior from Nigeria too ) who was inspired by my method ( not going to reveal more than that ) flipped a site that was making just $200 per month for $1,600 and the site was just in it first month which in my opinion an absurb price to pay but someone was still crazy enough to buy it at that price.

Didn't mean to insult any one at all and if I did I apologize.

$3,000+ seems a bit steep imo and I can't see any one purchasing it for that much. Is $1,000-$1500 too much to expect when selling this?

michaeljacksonautopsy.com this one? not sure about the value.. the interest will wane .. I would say sell it quick before this fad goes away.... if it is MJ collectible related.. however, it will have lasting value...

I'm quoting someone else but I think it was your earning and multiple byx24.
I would say (just from gut), you should sell for at least how much you expect to make with it in 2 years.

I just don't see it selling for near $3,000. I'd sell it for $1,000 probably, dunno

For all my previous sites I've sold I took my gross monthly sales for 8 - 12 months and they seemed to sell relatively quickly assuming you can provide proof of income.

      HI

Sorry if this is not what you want to hear..

But profiting of the death of some one famous .. by making a site about it.. and then asking what the site would be worth is wrong..

This is what gives domain owners and flippers a bad... name..

if you made a site about MJ and his death as a memorial site.. ok

I have seen people reg.. domains like Hatiearthquake.com and then try to sell that on ebay for $xx,xxx

      just wrong..

      Tom
