Ever paid someone to make a video for you?

Mind if I ask how much you paid for it? How complicated/non-complicated it was? Was it worth the $$$? Curious to see how many others are openly paying for video production stuff, even Animoto style stuff... thanks in advance.

When I first started, I was just learning Sony Vegas editing techniques, so I didnt have the time to push out my own DVD to advertise my products. I paid $200 to a guy who had some great examples and references and we talked about what I wanted for about a month and he only charged me $200. Day comes where he sends me a rough draft of the video which was 36 minutes long, it looks like it was made in about 30 minutes using Windows Movie Maker... which looked horrible and very unprofessional. I went with a more professional video maker and for $2,000, I was given something that was really worth much more. It had self animated logos in it so it wasnt just some slideshow. It also came with illustrative examples, a really good voice over, other great animations...

Video Editing and Production takes some serious skill, people cant just learn this like can with Windows Movie Maker or something overnight. You get what you pay for.

    I have, yes

    Depends there are 3 routes

    1. Get them to make it from scratch
    2. Give them a video you bought from a video place like template monster and then have them customize it
    3. If its a screenshot video, do it yourself. If its heavy animation and fancy crap.. get someone else to do it, its much less of a headache that way

As for cost involved it varies depending on how complex the video is going to be. There is no 1 price fits all.

Well, yes, but I'm more interested in what YOU paid for and what YOU got in your particular experiences with purchasing a customer video.

Well i haven't just had 1 video done I've had lots done varying from

30 seconds intro videos to 30 mins walkthrough videos

And all the videos have varied, some I gave them a video which they could customize and edit and others they made it from scratch.

Payment is going to be a touchy area as

1 persons work for 8hrs in their mind might be double or triple what another is willing to do the work for.

Some people place a higher value on their work

When i select a person/company usually its through an outsource service whereby i can get 20 or 30 bids to choose from and 20 or 30 peoples previous work to look at.

There are many people out there who think they are good at video creating and yet their work is crap. Outsource services let me see that fast and at the end of the day I dont mind paying more for good quality

Quality comes first, Price comes Second.

        Then in some cases

Price comes first, Quality comes second

it depends on what im going to use the video for and for how long.

if its a video I plan to have people viewing for a long time. I go for quality, if its for a limited time, I may lean towards price

    DON'T USE Clyde ... from 'studioc-video-pro.com'

I am currently disappointed with CLYDE as a member of the Worrior forum, he has taken over $300 from me and not delivered the Videos I've ordered.

I ordered them on the 22nd of Jan 2010 and still waiting for them on the 19th Feb 2010.

I am so upset with this worrior for treating me this way. Email after email after email and no Conclusive response or VIDEOS. I've even asked for a refund ... no response.

It looks as though he's run off with my hard earned money .. I'm so disappointed CLYDE.

I found a guy on the warrior forum who does quick 30-45 second videos. Really inexpensive ($7) and decent quality. Of course it is not the best, but it does what I am looking for. I will look up the thread and give you the link if you wanna check it out

edit-- the name of the guy I used is premium web content

I've had my own videography and web design business since 1999, but I moved and left all my clients 1000 miles away. I haven't wanted to go through all of the hoops I would need to, in order to establish an "offline" business up in the boonies where I now live.

I've debated on offering a Video Creation Warrior-for-hire service but I have seen a trend on the forum that concerns me. I know of at least three people who have offered their video services but then seem to disappear with people still wanting to make new orders or worse yet, wanting to know where their orders are.

    I wonder:

    1. Are those people just flaky?

    2. Are their customers just flaky? (I've seen some of the customers - so I don't think this is true!)

    3. Are they finding that their "bargain" prices are just not worth the work so they bail?

    4. If I do make an offer available, would I be tempted to bail as the others have? (I don't believe so, but maybe there is some deep, dark secret I am unaware of!)

Personally, I have spent thousands of dollars on cameras, computers, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects, Digital Juice SD and HD backdrops and footage, high definition photos, plus countless other helpful equipment items. I can't afford to offer a $7 or $17 or $27 video, so I face the dilemma that most business owners face, especially these days. Where do I draw the line between what I'm worth and what the market will bear?

Yes, I want the work but no, I don't want to end up getting $3 per hour by the time I'm finished. I'm one of those firstborn perfectionist people that tediously goes through every frame about 20 times. (I guess it might help if I whittle that down to at least only 15 times.)

Video marketing has gotten increasingly more popular. Now with Video Boss out, the video bar may be raised, so-to-speak.

So my question in return would be, what do you think are reasonable prices for video? FaJeeb has already answered, but what do you think, Andrew and others? Is cost the most important thing to you when deciding to purchase customized video? What else matters?

    Thanks for your answers!
