Okay I have struggled with this one for a while and am driving myself nuts. If a .com is NOT available but the .net and the .org are, does it make a difference which one I choose?
#net #order #org

    .net then .org

.org was once for non profit organizations but I think that's pretty much changed in most peoples minds over the last couple of years

difference is minor.. a coin toss pretty much.. I would pick .org because it convey a good image.. think about craigslist .org..

    What are you buying for?

For branding and potential resell/flipping purposes you'll want to have a .com if at all possible, without hyphenation. You also need to be wary of trademarks and the like.

For SEO purposes, it doesn't matter. What matters in that case is links and your internal site structure and content. See my article on this subject here: Earn Online Cash with .Info Domains

Very very interesting. I read that article and you mentioned about checking out the history of any domain before purchasing. Well actually I never even thought about that and from now on I will make that part of the buying process. Thanks for the tips!

Oh and btw, the domain is being purchased for niche marketing. Of course the keyword for the .com is not available, but the domain was purchased back in 2006 and I get the "server can't be found" message. The wayback machine doesn't show anything on this .com of the domain. So that's why I began to wonder about the .net and .org....and now the .info

If I really liked a given domain name, "net" would be my next choice. I would not likely choose "org" or "info." Instead, I'd try to get another dot com.

    I agree.

SEO-wise, the domain extension doesn't make a real difference.

You can definitely rank well and high even with super cheap
    .info domains.

The important thing is how well your site is optimized - offpage
    and onpage.
