Need TV Interview Tips

I'm being screened for a TV interview on a news channel.

I would appreciate tips from anyone with experience.

I mostly want to know: what is the reporter is looking for? How do I make sure that the news channel airs my interview, and airs as much of it as possible?

The story has to do with my hiring freelancers as outsources.

But my interest is in getting publicity for my own business (which is helping people succeed online)....

I have no experience with this, so any help would be appreciated!

I mostly want to know: what is the reporter is looking for?
sound bytes... 3 - 5 second... clearly answering the questions.

No ummms and rambling... ie... "the fire started at 2am in the attic" not... well, umm... we think that ummm... smoke was coming from the second story and umm..."

How do I make sure that the news channel airs my interview, and airs as much of it as possible?
not much you can do about this other than being a great interview and giving good answers.

chances are if it's a package It'll be around 1 - 2 minutes long and they will use two sound bytes from your interview.

But my interest is in getting publicity for my own business
ask that when they use a lower third or identification graphic that the second line has your URL so it'll read "Bill Gates / microsoft.com" and not "Bill Gates / Billionaire Businessman"

I've done numerous interview, and even worked behind the camera, so have a good idea of what is required here.

Remember, the TV's stations job is to entertain the viewer. So whatever you say, must be clear, to the point, and informative.

Don't dwell to much on your own business, instead create the excitement. So say things like, 'companies such as mine are giving out of work talented fold a chance to sell their skills, where otherwise they might still be unemployed'
That hits certain keywords, gives the interviewer some themes to catch onto, and out of work people at home are shouting 'but what is your company!'

Here is what I would do:

    1) Ask the interviewer in advance what he would like you to talk about (they have an agenda as directed by the editor)

    2) Think, can I give any step by step instuctions for any of this? So the interviewer asks how can somebody become a feelance - you answer:
    a) firstly a potential freelancer must know what they are good at. Maybe they should sit down and write a list of all the work they have done and which skill they have acquired (then give an example)
    b) Then they should sign up with a company such as mine that specialises in getting freelancer work. The process is so eas, all they have to do is enter a bio and bid for work (sell the qualities of your site, but not the site)

By giving step by steps you create quality content for the interviewer, and by not mentioning your company but implying it, you don;t come across as selling but as an expert (experts get more air time)

At the end, you always get a chance to sum up, that is where you add a plug for your site, and think of one sentence that will motivate your audience to join your site (not a discount but something like, for the next two days we have 12 support staff dedicated to helping you get set up)

Remember, the priority here is to get air time. The more air time you have, the more peple recognise your name, and that they associate with your business...

    Hope that helps
