Is this keyword too good to be true

I've just found a 3-word keyphrase for a physical product which sells for around $120 on Amazon.

14,800 exact searches per month.

The .net domain is available.

The top 10 pages in Google have virtually ZERO backlinks. On-page optimisation is negligible.

The only drawback appears to be that all the domains are at least 8 years old. Would this make it hard to rank for this keyword.

I've also found at least five keywords in the same niche without really trying which have similar stats.

Any Warrior input as to whether this niche is worth pursuing would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Mark

Best way to find out is to try to rank for it. How much traffic dose the keyword have?

There is a LOT of gold still out in the mines - so if you've found a nice keyword like that just go for it. It costs $10 for the domain, a couple hours of work, and away you go. Worse case scenario is you add adsense to the site and make $5-$10 a month.

I normally let the TOOLS guide me. Domain age runs a close second to the number of backlinks a site has. So YOUR goal is to get more backlinks than those you want to outrank.

Backlinks don't seem to be a problem. As I said most of the top ten have ZERO!!!

Go for it, Mark. It could be a slam dunk if you do your homework.

if the .net is available and those other sites have no backlinks, then it's definitely worth of trying.. How many competition those KW have?

The competition is on the high side but as the top 10 seems so weak that doesn't really concern me...

Nope, no trademark, just a nice tight term everyone knows but pinpoints the niche exactly.

Just want to throw this in Some times the link checker tools are not accurate with the amounts of backlinks to the domains. If you look at some of the poker niche keywords, some sites only have like 30-40 backlinks but them backlinks are dam good ones, low numbers doesn't mean it is an easy niche. look beyond page one, look at the first 5 pages and see there backlinks to. But it sounds like a potential winner.

Thanks Lee. Sounds good advice. I'll do what you suggest.

I don't think that the age of the domains on page 1 will make it harder for
you. I personally never had problems to out rank old domains with my brand
    new ones.

It all depends on how good you optimize your site and of course the
backlinks. I think you should give it a try because otherwise you will never
    know.

Thats what appears so good about these keywords. Not do the backlinks appear non existant but the on-page seo is weak.

How big are these sites? Are they authorities in their niche?

Most of the competing DOMAINS are commercial, shop style, basically in the same niche but certainly not specifically targeted at these specific keywords. The ranked pages are not particularly authoratitive [if that's a word]

Never mind the other domain ages... sounds like a nice find.
How to know except to try it out?
