Advice on setting things up to sell eBook/info product

I have an information product that I want to sell online. The product is almost finished and I want to start setting things up to sell it.

Does anyone know of a checklist that they could point me to regarding starting from scratch? I literally have to set up a back account, merchant account, etc., and it would be really helpful if I could obtain a checklist of actions to take.

At this point all I have is the ebook. I do use xsitepro for some other small websites, but my intention is to outsource as much as possible so the ebook gets online with the appropriate type of website/sales letter/autoresponder, etc.

Any direction more experienced folks could provide would be appreciated!

I have used a FREE website (angelfire, later LYCOS) to sell many information products. All have been sold using PayPal. You can connect your bank account to your PayPal account and get started right away, and then, IF you see sales of the work, and IF you have a back end or more product to sell, THEN you can get a merchant account and all the other stuff you need.

To sell with PayPal, you need a PayPal account. IF you have a bank account, get a confirmed PayPal account.

Then you need a sales page.
    A PayPal button.
A Thank YOU/fulfillment or download page.
A place to put your information to be downloaded.

My opinion, it is more important to start selling something quickly, then adjust all the mechanical/technical aspects as you move forward.

Don't get bogged down if this is your first info product, get it out there, make some sales and then you can begin to see what and where you need to go.

It's worked for me for over 15 years ONLINE and in many cases, using this free site and PayPal has often worked better than full blown sites with merchant accounts and all the trimmings.

    Good luck in your project.

I agree with the above poster - keep this as simple as possible as you can always make it more complicated down the road.

Are you planning to get affiliates or just sell this yourself?

Hey man I just started my own pick up & dating product about 2 months ago and its awesome to not have to wait 2 months for affiliate networks to send me a check because all my money goes straight to my paypal account...anyway heres what i did

    I created the ebook.
    converted it to a pdf
studied my niche, and found who was the leader in the area. then i followed his style of his sales page and changed some stuff around so it wasnt copying.
created some video testimonies, and a video opt in capture page
then i created a newsletter selling my ebook using aweber
went to e-junkie.com and created my product button that lead to my paypal account.
    drove traffic....wallah!

      Thanks for the fast responses!

I will need the ability to use the major credit cards in addition to PayPal. This means I will need a merchant account, correct? Does a single merchant account handle Visa, Mastercard, etc?

I hadn't thought about the various free options. I've seen mini-sites for selling ebooks advertised here for $500 or so, though I'm not sure if that price includes everything I need to sell the ebook.

In addition to the tips you are providing, is anyone aware of a tutorial that I could read that can help me learn about the various things I have to do?

      Thanks!

      This is the important bit.

I've done well with E-Junkie. For a WSO, use WSO Pro - no two ways about it - but other than that, E-Junkie has been good to me.

Paypal accepts credit cards. You, the seller need to have a (premier or business) account. The buyer doesn't need to have one - unless you are charging them with a recurring fee (like monthly membership).

      Thanks for the information.

I am hoping other experienced folks share their thoughts and point me toward resources or information.

I'm trying to avoid wasting time and focus on the right sequence of actions to take to start an ebook/info product business.

      Thanks!

Instead of trying what have been suggested already you are still looking for your so-called "other experienced folks". Action is waht is required of you. Do the suggested things and come back to seek more assistance.Doing this will make others what to contribute their ideas.

      BINGO!

You (the OP) got enough "thoughts" already shared with you.

Implement them! See what works and what doesn't: you can NOT avoid testing everything in your particular situation (niche, product, traffic - they are all different for everybody!). Testing is not wasting time: it is part of the learning process.

After testing come back and ask more focused questions.

I was asking the "more experienced folks" to point me to resources/information that might exist so that I could read them and educate myself prior to taking action. Experience has taught me that while taking action is a good thing - taking deliberate, focused and properly sequenced action is always a superior option.

Thanks to all for the responses - they are truly appreciated.

P.S. For those who sent PM's pointing me to some great information - THANK YOU!
