Hi all , I am a newbie but i was able to attend a good meeting this week that was not IM related

I must state that most on this forum know a whole lot more than me so maybe this is old news so forgive me but i hope this helps someone

The topic turned to google and the "inside" scoop is that google caffeine is a project to bring a better search engine.
Bing actually started this and Google followed. Actually Backlink automatic tools also caused this. The age of a website will now be the most important things on google's page 1 NOT the number of backlinks. Actually one "exec" actually said google started doing this change slowly back in Nov 09. If you have thousands of backlinks and hundreds of profiles you may have your site suddenly way out the top pages of google or gone . Lastly googles and Bing are really going all out to stop spam sites.
Maybe this is old news but hope it helps others or newbies looking for quick cash.

Old news, and you will find that things really dont change much. Those who take the effort to get thousands of profile links will be going for non-profile links as well. At worse this will just make it so you need to diversify more... which happens every major update.

The best way the algo's have to determine quality content without actually visiting the site is via links. They cannot determine relevancy without actually visiting the sites either. There are plenty of other places the time ratio is thrown out, but if every google employee were to split up the web and look at every page once a year.. they would have a little over a second a site to do it. And note that is without working 24/7, and doesn't take into account the new sites that will go up in that time.

Also, if thousands of profile links is all it takes to remove a site from being a competitor... those same spam programs still retain their usefulness.

Hmm... Do you have a source for this. I sure would like to read or watch it myself because it really does not quite ring true. While age is one of many factors I have not seen anything that suggested that it would be the most important.

Hi, It was just a business meeting and it turned to a conversation about google even Angela herself said spammers ruined much of the good work she did. Actually it does look silly when i see a blog and one guy has 7 anchor text all under each other.

Ofcourse google sees this. Google is making some major moves even challenging Facebook for social networking. Again, Bing had a huge leap in traffic and this was a big part
It was actually Bing and Ask.com(which will not even accept urls from webmasters) that started this(Bing is owed by Microsoft and Bill Gates and they loth spam sites)

Ask.com has about 10% of search traffic but that is still millions a day but will not accept sites they choose who they use because of spammers. Google is following suit. Actually this is good news for those with legit sites.

Again I ask. Do you have a real source for your inside knowledge of Google's plans or is this all just opinion?

An interview with with a Google exec perhaps?

Your posts read like you are stating facts but you show no sources to back up your statements.

I do not have any inside knowledge of Google's plans.

I do, however, have a nondisclosure agreement with Microsoft.

So I can't cite the exact and specific reasons I call certain predictions "wrong" and "not-wrong," nor can I unequivocally say that a prediction is "right." But I understand search engines.

        Simple test

Google on the following term: 'cheap cialis'

Look at the backlinks for the ranking sites. What do you see?

Look at a lot of other mid-to-long tail terms off of other highly competitive niches. Check out the ranking sites' backlinks. What do you see?

Bottom line, you aren't going to rank on the first page for highly competitive terms using profile links and blog comments. But, you weren't going to do that anyway before the big scary Caffeine update. However, these links can help you rank for good long tail terms and apparently still do.

The first half of the sentence you emphasised is wrong.

      The second half is not.

    Yes,

That seems to be putting all their eggs in one basket if it's all going to be about age.
