What use is collecting information to a business that provides a service?

My brother currently has his own courier service located in florida and he has someone that runs his website for him. I just visited his website and I started thinking about the different marketing things that I have learned over my time as an IMer and it made me realize that he doesn't have anything set up to capture leads.

However, I started thinking about the type of service he provides and I couldn't for the life of me think of anyway that he would be able to capture leads..or monetize them once he captured them. Due to the nature of his business I cannot think of anything he could give visitors as an incentive for an opt-in, and once he has leads I really can't think of anyway that he could monetize them, or what kind of emails he would be able to send...

I would really like to help my brother out and I know that if he captured at least 10% of his visitors as leads, rather than allowing them to walk away, he would be able to pretty much double his current client base which would be life changing for him.

Anyone have any ideas?

Remember: He owns a courier service (delivery) and has been running it as his main source of income for the past 7 or 8 years. He does well with it, well enough to pay for his expenses, and support his family. However, I know that he could do so much better if he had a proper marketing campaign set up. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have much time right now to get into this but...

Many people who use couriers are businesses. He may be able to offer a marketing tips newsletter that promises various discounts on valuable goods and services for buinesses along with very good content.

That might work. Not everyone are IM people and already on hundreds of mailing lists. Also, if people can see some real value they may opt-in.

People who use couriers also use office supplies, boxes, tape, packing materials, etc... there may be some biz-dev opportunity there for partnering up/affiliating with an office supply co.

I'm sure there are a lot more things someone could come up with if they thought hard.

    Good Luck

He could also partner with companies that offer parallel services and use the auto-responder service to promote those services, thereby earning extra income.

Not everything has to be about the courier business. You can think outside the box, and expand his income in other ways.

    Here's an example:

How about offering a report that explains how to package an item properly so it doesn't get crushed in the mail?

I know a ton of people who could use a report like that....my own nephew comes to mind.

Now that you have that list, you could strike a JV with one of the office supply stores in your area, and use that to sell them the needed supplies to package materials the right way so they don't get crushed.

He makes money off the affiliate sales, the office supply store makes money...a perfect win-win if you ask me.

I would go look at a bunch of other courier websites and see if any are building a list, and if so, what they're trying to monetize their list with.

To understand marketing you need to understand that it's a process of education:

      # Educating your prospects on why it's in their best interests to do business with you. Giving them very specific useful information along those lines.

You might create a report for example "7 Secrets To Getting Your Packages Delivered FAST" or "The 7 Most Costly Mistakes Businesses Make When Using A Courier Service".

The business that educates captures the hearts and minds of their prospects and clients.

      # Educating your clients on why they should continue to do business with you.

      Courier services have repeat clients.

In some cases their clients don't even understand the full range and possibility of their services.

They may not understand the benefits of using one particular courier service over another (here's a tip: if you have a business and your clients can tell someone why they use you instead of someone else you need to do some educating).

Client retention is vital and there are many ways to do this. A good marketer is going to set up systems to do it...mail, email, online video, reports, thank you letters and emails, speical gifts etc etc.

      # Getting referrals. Referral systems are powerful and work like gangbusters.

Referrals often generate the highest quality, highest paying clients (they trust you and your service before they even meet you because they've been presold and preeducated by someone they trust).

When you start collecting information you can follow up and ask for referrals in multiple ways.

You can also thank people when they give you referrals.

      # Reactivating past clients.

Most businesses have a ton of past clients who haven't used their service for a while for no particular reason.

When you capture contact details you can go back to past clients and remind them of the service or just keep in touch to put a business back at the top of their minds.

Doing this on a regular basis can provide a HUGE boost in business.

      # Promoting related services to your prospect and client base.

You can do this either to make a commission on the sales you generate or to have the businesses promote promote your business in return or even to get products or services from other businesses free or at a discount.

Either way for some businesses this can provide some very handy profits.

And I've barely scratched the surface here.

Put simply capturing contact details give you a whole range of possibilities in following up with prospects and clients to generate business.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh
