Adsense or Ebay - Opinions...

I was going to start making some adsense sites, but I started thinking that it might be better to list ebay products instead. They are both pay per click and I was thinking that people might click more on an actual product with a description as opposed to just a text advertisement.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks in advance

You're going to have multiple sites for this either way you go. Why don't you mix it up? See which works out better and transition over. You will probably see good results from having both.

Thanks Travis, that is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that

I've never done either so I can speak from personal experience to those two ideas specifically, but I was going to echo the post right above this from petelta and say yes I'd try to do some of each and see which performs better for you since every niche will be different and no one can comment on which one will always outperform the other.

Testing is always a good thing, so Travis is spot on.

For what it's worth, I never had much success with Ebay ads. I have had lots of success with Adsense, though. You'll find others who tell you the exact opposite, so test test test. Let your own results decide it.

ebay has been paying me about .14 per click average. They also for some reason stop paying me for clicks out of the blue then start up again???

Adsense would be much better IMO

I was accepted to the EPN recently, actually right before making my first adsense site. That's why I paused to ask you guys...

That calls for some split testing.

I would suggest to use both of them. As pointed out by others you have to do some trial and error to find out the what is best for you. Vary the ads placements and see, which is working out best for you.

  • eBay may pay you 1 cent for 50 clicks.

It's not like Adsense at all.

Before they changed to the pay per click system EPN was a freakin' gold mine. Now it's reduced to being on par with or slightly better than Adsense in terms of payouts, depending on the product line.

The nice thing about EPN is that you have a lot more flexibility in the ads you show where with Adsense you have a lot more rules to follow (don't encourage clicks!) and you have little control over the ads shown. This factor alone can insure a much higher CTR with EPN if done right.

For me personally I've had a lot more success with Ebay than with Adsense. However, I think it comes mostly down to your own specific style of website creation and management.

I couldn't tell you exactly what the difference between Ebay friendly sites and Adsense friendly sites is, but I suspect if you had the means to study the phenomena you'd find some kind of common content creation traits that put people in one camp or the other.

The sites I run tend to be entertainment related, or specifically relevant to an area I know is thriving on Ebay. I did have some success in one area with Adsense, and that was Mortgages. Finance isn't my bag though so I've leaned towards Ebay.

One thing I like a LOT with Ebay though, which counts if your non-US, is the direct deposit option. Another thing I really enjoy is there's no long wait for payment or even any threshold. Every month money shows up in my account like clockwork.

This can be really handy if you like to build sites up and sell them. You might have your Ebay revenue ticking over steadily, but then you sell a site and obviously it drops. Regardless, you still get paid.

That's my personal experience and thoughts on the matter, but as said above, you have to see what suits you and the kind of websites you like to make.
