Wordpress Fast Ranking Is Amazing!

Hey all,

I just submitted a new post for one of my blogs. Just for kicks, not more than 10 seconds later I typed the keyword into Google to see what the competition was like and my blog was already ranking #1.

This wont work for a brand new blog - you must have already had a few posts up on that blog right?

I noticed something similar the other day too - new posts were showing up in the G index within a few minutes.

This is because WP is automatically pinging you when you create new posts. It tells the se's to get over to your site to see the new content :-)

  • You are suggesting that Google is continually crawling your site.

Make another post and do the same.

    Coincidences happen.

No, for me it happens with every post I make on my test site. I've tested this and it's the same.

I use the sitemap plugin as well as a much larger pinging list then the default WP setup, but this is no coincidence. Google indexes my new posts within a few minutes (and my test site is not a high traffic site either).

lol yea unfortunately that's a fluke. Won't always happen. Unless you run lifehacker.com or a similarly respected website. But it does put a smile on your face doesn't it?

Actually I have seen this on many wordpress blogs. I personally use the google sitemap plugin and along with ping services you should get crawled frequently or when ever you make a new post.

But have also noticed that Google does give an instant boost to wordpress but your indexed page might settle in and not be ranked as high. This is especially true for new wordpress sites. They seem to rank early but then come back down to earth.

From my experience I believe wordpress is one of the best CMS's for keyword strategies. With simple, easy to use plugins like all in one seo plus proper keyword usage you can dominate long tail keywords.

Typically what I do when ever I want to rank a post for the search engines is I determine the long tail keyword I want to rank for. I use that keyword as my title, tags and meta. I will also use the keyword in my content. This alone seems to work quite well. Also permalinks will help and using plugins like related post you can easily setup keyword anchor text links on other post.

1nspire, if I get your last paragraph right, you mean to say that you're continuously changing title, tags and metas on your blog(s)?

No not all. All I am saying is I determine the keyword string and use the keyword string through out the post while keeping it human readable. I do not stuff the keyword but I make sure it will have an h1 tag which is the title, meta which is where all in one seo plugin comes in, and the tags plus the keyword string in the content at least once but not much more than that. The related post plugin only places a linked anchor text on other post that I have with related information.

The wordpress RPC pinging works well. I don't think it affects rankings, but it does get google to crawl your posts faster. I set up google web alerts, and I've published things and gotten a web alert 5 minutes later. It's a good feature for sure.
