Very Interesting BBC Documentary Series on Internet and Marketing

I watched this last week and must say it has been the most interesting programme Ive seen in a long time.

This week which has just been shown here in the UK covered Googles beginings and how they set out from the start to implement a search system based on what we now know is "Backling" for anyone interested in IM.

This series is much more than that though and will leave you glued to your seat if you are remotely interested in all things Internet.

Heres the website, you might be able to watch the series so far ...
BBC - The Virtual Revolution - Home

Just checked it out, you can watch the series so far and its free.

Yeah i saw this to and i was glued to the screen.

It pretty much reinforced everything us IM folk know.

Unfortunately the link you gave is unlikely to work for those outside the uk.

What you say about re-inforcing is so true.

To re-cap in a very short way about what was said in the last episode, when the guys built google, they wanted a system that could tell the wheat from the chaffe and so came up with the linking philosophy ... nothing new here for most of us but definately shows how they set out with this goal straight from the early days harking back from the 1990s. It shows interviews with their University Tutor commenting on the early days when they first got the ball rolling and how they could monitize it, which I have seen clever IMs doing on a smaller scale of course but have done very well mimiking on a ultra micro scale.

It gives a confidence for anyone starting a backling campaign if you happened to be unsure.

Maybe anyone else can get this on youtube ??

I recorded this last night and watched it today.

The first half was great - all about the rise of ecommerce and featured Google and Amazon. The Google stuff was particularly interesting although, as has been said, not new to anyone in IM. In a nutshell, it's all a function of keyword bidding and link popularity.

The 2nd half descended into the usual "big brother is watching you" stuff that TV producers seem to think is necessary when talking about the Internet. I'm sure they have some valid points but it's been done to death. Enough already.

Anyway, next week's show is about social networking so that should be worth a look.

Here a link to the series on the BBC site:

Thanks for the link Neil. I also recorded this programme but you made it much easier to watch here.

      "Free is an illusion"

Nothing really ever changes. It used to be no such thing as a free lunch.

It is Naziblocked, at least here in Norway. Do anyone know where I can find it where it is not "Not available in your area"?

Yes, me too had seen that. It is really interesting. However, I am happy to check that video again here. It proves that, S.E.O industry is growing very fast and spreading like fire. So, there will be more jobs in SEO & link building sector in future.

When you click on the link you should see a picture of the lady reporter with a "watch now" button to press. If you don't see that maybe for some reason you can't access it from USA.

      Hope this helps,
