I come to you with total shock.

I have been doing article marketing for some time now and have about 98 articles live on EzineArticles.com as well as other articles published in other article directories.

Traffic is alright really not something i'm content with and i'm looking for ways to improve this.

Today i figured i might as well check out what my competitors are doing in EzineArticles and see how i can possibly learn and improve my articles.

So i log in to Ezinearticles and check around for articles in my niche. I then decide to look in the most viewed section and i stumble on an article that has 1,995 views and guess what it went live in late January. Today is the 14th. I found that very surprising. I had written an article on the exact same keyword, 3 different times.

First article got 207 views
Second article got 79 views (this article also targets another keyword)
Third article got 46 views

Ok that's a total of 332 views
My competitor got 1,995 views.

I'm completely blown away by this.

I decided to dig deeper.
His site gets far far less traffic than mine.
According to yahoo site explorer he has 11 indexed pages and 51 backlinks
My site has 45 indexed pages and 263 links (i question this because my tracking system states i have over 1,000 links)

I don't get this at all!

Can someone explain to me how an article that has been live in less than a month have close to 2000 views while my others on the same topic don't even come close.

    errr.....

    Number manipulation

While you might think that is a "smart ass" answer - It's the truth.

I wouldn't necessarily say your article got "owned"....You were just "out played" - Right or wrong.

That was my first thought as well. He could have purchased traffic to send to the article, included it in a popup or even used a bot or some other method to up his views artificially.

The thing everyone knows about article marketing is, the more views you have, the more you end up getting later, and the more people will republish your article. So this person may be employing these tactics. Or they may just have a very interesting article that a lot of people passed to others. That's possible as well, though not very likely in my experience.

The key is to learn what he has done to outdo you. It happens to virtually all of us. I have seen a guy in the forex niche whose articles get over 2,000 views per article even though mine in the same niche can past the 100 views mark.

Not sure what this guys are doing but I am sure it is not only backlinks. I build backlinks as well but don't get half as much as they get.

Actually, views can increase drastically with backlinks - they just have to be the "right" kind

and with that - I'm out of this thread Whenever I'm involved in these threads they turn "bad" so, I'll cut this one off at the pass on my own.

He didn't own your article he just played the system as some others do all of the time.

Make some forum posts in a different forum asking members to review your article.

You can boost your count that way.

I would be less concerned with your view counts and artificially inflating them and more concerned with the quality of your articles.

If you pump up your own views, then how will you know what techniques and subjects are working and what ones aren't? I say keep it honest and work to improve your articles and things will take care of themselves in due time.

Let's think about this a moment.

I have no idea why you are giving us the numbers of links to your website page compared to his, it has no bearing whatever on the views of your article.

How do you promote your article? Did you social bookmark it? Is it ranked higher in the search engines than his? Did you tweet about it and let an interested audience know about it? Do you have articles on other directories pointing to it?

If you did no promotion, and he did, he's going to kick your butt.

You have given us no facts, which I can see, which indicates why your article should be getting more views than his. If you are trusting on people just browsing or searching on EzineArticles for your article views, you lose.

Do you have to care? Personally I won't mind if you can share some of what you know as I am really interested in this topic.

That is why it is called Article Marketing, with Marketing being the key word in the equation.

It is not enough to just write an article and post it to a directory. You are leaving a lot of money on the table if you submit your article and ignore it. You should write a good one, submit it, then market it... Using as many traffic generation techniques as you can throw at it...

Be aware that it is against EzineArticles TOS to buy traffic to send to your articles. If you get caught sending paid traffic to your articles, you could get banned from EZA.

But it is not necessary to buy traffic to send to your articles; you simply need to market your articles the same way as you market any other page on the Internet.
