How much do you pay your VA (Virtual Assistant) & What do they do for you?

Hello everyone.

I am interested in hiring a VA to do all the repetitive and time consuming jobs that I dislike doing however I am curious as to how much people pay their VA's and what type of jobs you give them.

I am looking to hire from Odesk and was looking to pay between $5-$10 per hour.

Thanks.

I actually use quite a few different VAs from a few different sites including ODesk and have had different results. We use them for Link Building, Article writing, content and video creation, testing niches, lead generation, creating link-magnets and more.

We also have a pretty good inhouse team for product development, support, etc. for more "Hands On" tasks.

We pay based on skills and quality and I tend to offer a nice bonus package as well to incentivize productivity. We started $5-10/hour for individuals and have expanded to a monthly contract for a core team we use on a regular basis.

It takes time to build up to that level where you need that number of VAs but you will start to find new tasks to push that direction to allow you to focus on what you should be doing best, Making Money.

If you only need an occasional VA then plan on finding one you can work with on a regular basis and that is reliable and I am sure you will soon find many other tasks to build up and send their way.

    All the best

Thanks Shaun for a very in-depth reply, I am actually looking to hire several VA's full time when I have the capital to allow me to do so however at first I will be starting with one VA part time.

Do you find that you have to teach the VA how to do certain jobs first, such as link building or they already know how to and how do you measure cost/benefit when you may not see their work?

    Thanks

Yes, especially when communicating my own techniques (such as Link-Magnets etc). I always make sure I have a step-by-step instruction sheet that they can follow and have a private Skype line to communicate directly with them (which is a must as far as I am concerned).

I actually tend to work more with East European VAs more than Indian and Indonesian as I have found the quailty of the work to be better, even if I pay a little more for it. That being said I have worked with many great Indian and Indonesian VAs as well.

      All the best

If you do not explain exactly what you want them to do, how do you expect a TRUE answer.... Each job needs different skills in this business and you have not said what it is you dislike and want to outsource....

You are probably better going and getting a warrior for hire and it will be done RIGHT and you can leave them feedback....

I have two. Both in Asia. One looks for new products, say I want to get into purchasing comforter sets for childs bedding, what they do is search for me, because the translation for me is difficult and often time consuming. They establish a contact with them, tell them they work for me, and through them, I haggle prices through manufacturers. He is commissioned based, and makes money every time I do. On average, he earns about $300 a week. Another checks up on these sources, to make sure they still have everything I need in stock and documents any changes and reports them to me. He earns $40 a week. I may have sold 40 units of a specific digital camera in two days online, either on eBay or CL or to another reseller, and if my supplier was out of these and wont get another shipment for a month, then I look stupid and it could cost me a good amount of money.
