What are other methods of searching for things online other than search engines?

I know there are tons (almost infinite) things in this world, and almost infinite things/ways within those topics of doing them....

but in terms of searching online for things, what other methods are there other than, search engines, bookmarking sharing sites, and sites like digg?

I know there are huge amounts of them out there, and there is no way anyone will ever likely hear about them all....

but what are some other methods of searching online that you know of? and what are examples of those methods, if possible?

I forget which ones do this, but there IS archie, veronica, jughead, and gopher! I HAD toyed with creating a searchengine that would be like google, but it was going to use archie(as I recall), to get the data. There was also glimpse(?), but that ALWAYS really had problems, and was really for WITHIN a site. Maybe if you told us WHY you wanted to know?

    Hi sara1987,

The main method I use for searching for information (other than Google) is I go to a major Public library site.

In my experience they require a library card to log in.

After logging in to the library data base they have for free TONS of services that they as the library have subscribed to as a service to their members.

These services would cost you thousands of dollars but you get them for free as a card carrying library member.

    They include.

Reference U.S.A, Business. A listing of detailed information, including a simple credit rating, the names of contacts, phone numbers, addresses, emails, number of employees and a lot more information on millions of U.S. Businesses.

Reference U.S.A. Household. Same as the above without the credit rating on millions of U.S. households.

One service has practise tests for many of the major tests. It's amazing how you can stretch your brain and build your knowledge and skills for article writing by just cutting to the chase and taking a test.

    Here is the entire list.
