To help out newbies; 3 regrets and 1 piece of advice

I've seen more and more of the same here, so I'm hoping that this clears some of it up :-) The idea of this thread is for those among us who are successful with IM (I'll let you decide if you're successful or not, why quantify it) to share 3 regrets that you have with your business, and one piece of advice for those just starting. So, here goes:

3 regrets:
1. Not taking action soon enough (and buying like 100 ebooks)
2. Trying to do too much at once
3. Trying PPC before I had researched it

One piece of advice: stop over analyzing and just DO SOMETHING! It doesn't even matter what! I realize that this industry is very analytical (CTR, email open rate, conversion, etc.) but until you have some numbers to work with, you aren't analyzing, you're speculating.

I've seen the 'which is better article marketing or forum marketing' question on here at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Who cares which is better? In the time it takes you to post a thread, wait for responses, read all the responses, and decide; you probably would have a sale if you had just picked one. Or, do both and then YOU decide which is better for your niche. So go do something!

Hope this thread helps and keeps going, peace! :-)

    Three regrets:
    1. Not diversifying sooner.
    2. Paying too much attention to a book I was writing and not noticing my site was hacked sooner.
    3. Not investing in my knowledge in the early going, preferring to teach myself everything.

    Advice:
Always be genuine with yourself and your audience. Build a business that will endure.

Being genuine is a great one... I know a lot of people will worry about how to write to their list, but most of the 'gurus' just be themselves (Frank Kern, for example). If in doubt, just write like you talk

Hi! Great idea for a thread - here are mine 3 regrets:

      1. Started using my SEO skills too late for my own purpose
      2. Started outsourcing too late
      3. Wasted lots of time on adsense instead of affiliate marketing.

      Three Regrets:
      * Procrastination due to fear of failure *and* fear of success
      (change)
      * Analysis Paralysis: The excuse of "investing in one's
      education" instead of taking action
      * Creating products that *I* wanted, not want the market
      wanted -OR-
Creating a product a client needs, but does not wish to buy

      Advise:
Do not chase after every thing under the sun. Choose ONE
thing and stick with it until the end. If you don't keep focused
and master the path you choose to follow for your
online/offline business, you can never truly reach
      any high levels of success.

        Same three here.

Advice: Don't be ashamed of your failures. The people in front of you already know you'll have failures on the way up. The people behind you need to know.

Totally agree with Thaddeus, I jumped from one thing to another for a year before I finally just stuck with something, and know I'm able to work from home with a comfortable living. Pick one thing at first, expand when you can outsource!

    My regrets...
    1. Not introducing a site license option sooner for my products.
    2. Relying on organic marketing rather than spending a bit of cash.
    3. Spending too much time writing on rubbish bulletin boards (not this one!) when I should have been writing hubpages and stuff that monetises my ability to write endlessly about anything.

ArticlePrince, I actually like all 3 of your regrets, I think they hold true for many of us. PPC burnt my fingers on more than one occasion.
My piece of advice is to overcome 1 and 2 there is a great free ebook available called 4 letter killer, it's only a short report but very helpful. Google it for details.

This is random, but another piece of advice I have to share is find a coach as soon as you can afford it; even if by some fluke you don't learn anything you will get a ton more done just by having someone to hold you accountable

I'm flatter, but I don't know near enough to tell you what to do or how to do it. I'm good at writing articles, and fortunately I know how to apply that to my own businesses and websites. However, I certainly can always learn more, and I'm not comfortable coaching on anything outside of article marketing. My suggestion would be to read the resource you have, and then try to do 3 things a day to take action based on that plan. If you actually do that every day and in a month you've seen nothing, then start looking elsewhere. Until then, stay focused and do as much as you can each day. Thanks again!
