Video Membership Site question

I am about to build a membership site with lots of video, however am not sure about one thing

The client wants good video streaming and so far I have come across lots of problems with hosting on normal hosting providers. It seems that video requires special hosting in order to stream smoothly. What would you recommend for this kind of site? It would be ideal to have video hosted on the same host and for the streaming to be of good quality

Use Amazons S3 Video hosting and that way you do not use your band width so it streams faster.

Also you only pay a very small amount per a view. Hope this helps

This all depends on what type of video you're streaming. If it's (say) flash video created with Camtasia, you don't need a fancy web server -- just one that can handle a lot of bandwidth. A decent VPS account should do the trick, with perhaps upgrading to a dedicated server as the site becomes more popular.

Your easiest solution with this is to get the Easy Video Player.

It gets installed on the server and allows you to upload videos that go directly into your S3 account.

It gives you the embed codes, with additional options such as the color of the player, buttons that can appear on the video when it is finished, etc.

It takes a few different formats.

You can put the videos on any site that is hosted on the users hosting account.

What you really need to worry about is how to stop people from joining your site, downloading the videos with Download helper, then unsubscribing.

If you're worried about them downloading the videos then I agree with Jill about Easy Video Player. It's extremely simple to use.

It does what she mentions as well as giving you the option to site restrict which sites the video will actually play on. So even someone views your source code and grabs it, it will not play on their site unless you specifically add that site to allow it.

The code also prevents the downloading the video and prevents hotlinking.
