Keyword In Domain Name? Please Give Your Advice!

I have a website which is about 8 months old. I used it to promote a new product for a newly established company. Up till now I drove traffic by means of offline marketing.

Well, as the months passed, the product got popular and now gets a decent number of searches in Google every day. The problem is, I was still a noob when I started out and didn't choose a domain name with the product name in it. My domain name do have the name of the company in it, but not the name of the product.

Recently I did a Google search and saw that a website with a domain name consisting of "product+company" gets indexed in the top 10 results. This website is new and have only about 6 backlinks.

Now I discovered a domain name, which is a combination of the company and the product, and is still available for .com. The .co.za domain is already taken.

I have not done any online promotion yet, like backlinks and articles. I would like to know which of the following options should I choose?

OPTION 1:
Move my site to the new domain (the product and company one) and then start to promote this new site.
Automatically forward traffic from my old site to the new site.

OPTION 2:
Does the age of my current site matter? Should I buy the new domain and forward traffic from there to my current site? Will this targeted keyword domain still rank high even if its sole purpose is to forward the traffic to my current site?

    Hi,

I don't use a company's name in any of my domains. There is always a possibility that in the future, you may come across a problem with the company, and your site could get shut down and all your hard work on this site would be wasted.

I would get a keyword domain related to the product...But I can't offer a lot of help here since I don't know the product.

    I hope that helps.

You need to ask yourself if your current site is bookmarked by lots of repeat customers. Or with lots of backlinks.

If it isn't you may consider moving it to the new domain name.

Or you could set up a new site with a few reviews of your product or website on the new domain. And link it to your original site.

Assuming there isn't any copied content You should be fine.

    Thanks for the advice!

At the moment the company don't have a problem if you use their name in any promotional material...but I realize that can change!

Will I still be able to outrank a "product+company" domain name, with a crappy site and only 6 backlinks, if I do a lot of promotion online for my site? Or will this competitor always be indexed above me for that keyword phrase because its in his domain name?

I'm willing to bet that you would see that you will find a few sites with newer domain age because their on-line Seo factors are in place.

If your on-line SEO is in place and you continue to build back-links, then you should be able to penetrate the matrix rather quickly.
I stumbled on the 30DC just the other day!
        Maybe that's a sign!

As you've already started driving traffic to your website I would just keep going and continue with other SEO techniques.

If in future you can get an exact keyword domain for a site (.com, .net, .org) then I would recommend doing so. From the testing I've done I would say it helps but you still need to apply other SEO techniques such as backlinking for it to really take effect.
