analytics and awstats HUGE difference......

according to google analytics, almost half my blog's traffic is local ( south africa )

according to awstats, only 11 % is local. (on cpanel)

how do i know which one is real ?

    I believe that your awstats has a list of your visitor's IP addresses. You can copy and paste them into an IP locator to see where they are. Even though you won't have all the IPs, you will get an idea of which stat is correct.

    It may also be worth looking into the basis of the "traffic figure".

    Reason: the AWStats traffic may well include robots visiting from outside SA. But GA usually counts unique visitors and I "think" it discounts robots. So stripping out robot visits it is plausible that half your visitors are local but adding in the robots and non uniques could skew the stats the towrds the 11% local.

    ... just a thought.

      the robots account for less that 10 % of the traffic. so it still doesn't add up.

    Sami - exactly right. GA doesnt display SE bots, which tend to skew the reports quite a bit on the AWStats or Webalizer stats measures. I have found that GA is the most accurate that I have worked with; even compared to ClickTracks.
