Auction Ending Soon .... Bidding Now will Extend the Auction

I'm watching a site on Flippa I'm interested in buying.

It was originally supposed to end at 10:00am this morning and I was not available.

I just came in to check the final auction price and it's still active with another 2 hours to go!

I've never seen an auction site that extends the bidding time every time someone bids.

The auction clearly says

"Auction Ending Soon .... Bidding Now will Extend the Auction"

How are you supposed to wait until the last minute to try and get something for under the BuyItNow price, if it keeps getting extended?

Tips for getting the best price on Flippa - anyone?

Heaps of auction sites do this. It is as close to a real world auction as you can get. Can you imagine buying a house using ebay's silly method? It would cause nothing but harm to the seller.

Any respectable auction site HAS to do this, to prevent the last minute snaps done by people who think they are smart.

And you have to wait until you are the most interested person willing to pay the highest price, I think this is the fair way..

Guess I've only used eBay - so, that's all I'm familiar with.

So, I presume if you really want a site you either buy it now (the sure way) or if you don't really care if you get it, so long as you don't pay more than your target price, one should put in there best offer SOONER and hope no one else is willing to go higher?

You can't wait til the end. They don't allow bid sniping on Flippa. It will automatically extend the auction if you bid within the last couple of hrs.

    If it's a site I really want, I BIN

Another thing that happened was that the BIN price dropped in the last few days from $500 to $200 (roughly) and that's another thing I haven't seen before (knowing only the eBay model.)

So - now that the BIN is at a price I'm willing to consider, excuse me everyone while I step on over to Flippa and . . . BIN.
