More Than One Site...Different IP Addresses?

Hello Everyone:

I hope you are all doing well.

I have been around IM for a little bit, but I never understood why you could not build multiple sites from the same host without having different IP Addresses (and not expect trouble from Google). Or do I understand that right? Let's say that I have 10 hosting slots with one membership site. Obviously each one would have their own domain.

Will I have problems with google if:

1) I run adwords to those sites, and

2) I use adsense on those sites

Or do I need to only have two sites there and go to another host and run another two sites, and so on...

Thanks,
Charles

Pretty much if you are building "link wheels",
such as Wordpress blogs, then it matters.

For that matter, you can get some free hosting
these days which can solve the problem of
having all your sites on one IP without
increasing your costs. I'm not saying it is
wise to use free/supercheap hosting for
    your core sites.

So as long as the 10 sites don't link to each other, it doesn't sound like a problem.

I don't thing Google is gonna penalize you as far as
Adwords go, but if you want to throw-up a bunch
of Adsense blogs on the same topic, all pointing
at a real "money site" Google might penalize you for
    that.

This is pretty speculative, but from an SEO perspective
if you want build your own blog networks it's a good
idea to spread the IPs around.

You can build 1,000 sites on one IP and link to them and it not hurt you ... I have been doing it for many many years. Think about it, a host (unless you have dedicated) could have 500,000 sites on one server, you mean to tell me 499,999 suffer ??

No way.. That crap about IP is a myth and nothing more. Its a way for host to make more money by selling IP's.

There is nothing wrong with you linking to your sites, matter fact it will help you..

Thanks for setting the record straight. It seemed silly to
me that Google would fixate and penalize on the basis of IP.

As in many things in this business, a lot of it is just separating
    the wheat from the chaff.

So in your opinion sites suffer because they do not fork out money for a dedicated IP ?? Come on man, if that was true then anyone with a little money could dominate the entire search engine.

Also all the backlinking we do would mean nothing then unless you build backlinks on dedicated ip sites. How many people you think have a dedicated ip vs those that do not ?? I can almost bet that there are more that do not have dedicated ip's.

Sorry but the IP thing is nothing more than a myth and a little logic can tell anyone that ...

Well I will be the first one to tell you that PR does not mean anything anymore (it used to) .. But with that said if you have 5 sites on your server...

    Site 1 = PR1
    Site 2 = PR0
    Site 3 = PR2
    Site 4 = PR3
    Site 5 = PR3

If you link them together just by a small link at the footer (normally where the copyright is) .. Within a few months All the sites will be a PR3 and if you build some good backlinks they all will be raised even higher than that ...

    Wow...that is very interesting James.

Loren, as always, thanks for your perspective, my brother.

So it sounds like it is not that much of an issue.
