Press releases

I don't have all that much experience with press releases but I did get into it a LITTLE bit about year ago.

I only wrote a few of them to promote a site I was currently working on, and I was pleased to see the press releases get to the front page in Google pretty quickly. (Faster than anything else I was doing at the time, anyway).

Having said that, they didn't do that much for me, because I didn't have a lot of experience in writing them - and I didn't feel like I knew the ropes very well.

As for what kinds of businesses, if you learn how to write them correctly they can be used to effectively promote just about any business/website.

There aren't many products, services or businesses you couldn't promote with a press release.

It's similar to writing any article, you still need many of the classic elements like a good headline, nice story / event / hero.

I've used this method to promote a broad range of affiliate product sites.

One method I've been liking a lot is finding local news stories and then writing a little summary as a press release.

Last week I saw an advertorial for workshops that teach parenting techniques for teens. I noticed in the ad that this guys shows had sold out twice before so I wrote a very simple PR along the lines of:

Parenting Expert Dr. X Gives New Hope To Struggling Moms, which just talked about him and how much good he was doing for kids and their relationships with their parents. How his shows keep selling out and he is making a difference. And that was about it.

Then ended with the My Company...supporting solo mothers...URL.

It was very simple, factual, a feel good story and I promote a great and helpful product.

There are a lot of options there for many products, services and businesses.

That is a very vague example but hopefully you get the gist of it.
