Read these books and learn some basic skills

Here are my thoughts after 4 unsuccessful years in IM.

I had myself a great time but did not make any money and in fact lost quite a lot of my savings.

Here is what I did wrong

1) I did not learn the basic skills. If you know the basic principles of marketing and learn and master some basic skills like copywriting, market research, product creation and a few methods of traffic generation then you can make money. Unfortunately although I have a lot of information about IM I have not mastered these basic skills.

2) Blindly trusting IM gurus and sales letters. I really think it would be better if you could learn about IM from some good university. The university professors may not be practicing what they preach but there is a better chance that they will really tell you what is worth knowing. The IM gurus have a vested interest and I think that you cannot expect them to put these vested interests aside and have your best interests at heart.

Anyway I am reading an offline book Onl;ine marketing heroes by Michael Miller. The book contains interviews of about 25 Internet experts in the corporate world. This book really tells you like it is and I would recommend it to the members of this forum.

There are two other books also published by Wiley

Blogging heroes
Web 2.0 heroes

It might be worth reading those as well because you really need to be told like it is. You need reliable information to succeed in any venture whether online or offline.
