  • Hi

I personally would sit down with paper and pen and write down 5 -10 niches that I'm interested in. I would then 'google' those niche keywords/phrases along with the word 'forum' and then check out those forums one by one to see what people are looking for and if there is a profit to be made.

Unfortunatly it does take time but at least you would be going for something you know people are interested in rather than just taking a stab in the dark and creating a product you think people might go for which would probably waste your time and effort.

Once you've decided on the niche, then you need to create your product that will cater for that market - whether it's an ebook, audio or video and use that to build your list.

Build a good solid relationship with your list and don't sell, sell, sell to them otherwise you'll just come across as being a sales person. Give good quality free information and soon they'll start to build up trust and respect for you.

    Best wishes

    Doug

There are many ways to go about this. You can go on Amazon or Ebay and see what is selling and how long it has been selling for. You can go to Walmart and have a gander around. Watch TV commercials. Check out the hot trends on Yahoo or Google, etc...

i have had the same problem a few times recently. and speaking as a noob myself there are a couple of things i have figured out here at WF. the first being nobody is going to give up a profitable niche and asking them to will more then likely result in one of two things happening the first of course that your thread is ignored the second being a veteran member comes along and lectures you on the importance of the search feature both of course really sucks but thats life at WF.

now on to finding a niche this is what works for me it may or may not work for you but at least give it a try.

when I'm trying to find a niche the first thing i do is step away from the computer. a profitable niche is one that REAL people are interested in and I wont find it staring at the world through my 19 inch monitor. i go for a walk or i clean my house i look at all the things around me realizing everything is a niche (it really truly is). its all about perspective. i start to write down the ideas that come to me over the course of the time spent on the walk or cleaning the house and when im done with those activities i go back to the computer and i take my list of ideas and begin running them trough the google keyword tool and spyfoo. After sorting out the gems i take those and run with it. wash and repeat.
I know this isnt handing you the perfect niche but its a method that works for me and the most valuable lesson there is to learn with IM is to do things for yourself! Dont be afraid of trial and error anyway i hope this helps ~ kyhell

Well, I looked at your websites that you have now. I would suggest cleaning them up before moving onto the next niche.

A few suggestions for finding niches
-Think about the interests that you have, your spouse has, your friends, etc.
-Go to Amazon.com or Magazines.com and check out the magazines, including trade magazines, available. If there are magazines about it, it means that there is enough interest in the topic to justify many people paying monthly for information about the topic.
-Look at the list of "Dummies" or "Idiots" guides. Those books are very popular and once again if the book was published that means there's a proven market for the topic.
-Start off with a very broad topic you're interested in like "Crafts and Hobbies". Check out the Amazon bestsellers books in that category. Are there topics that continuously appear? Click on the subcategory they appear on. Keep on drilling down until you find an unsaturated, but popular topic within that subcategory. Suddenly something very broad like "crafts and hobbies" has turned into a microniche like "money origami".

I read an Ebay book once where the author talked about how she would come up with ideas while she was driving. She just noted everything she saw while she was driving and came up with ideas for things to sell. I later read a suggestion to take a notepad and go to each room in your house and write down everything you see. Don't try to analyze it at the time, just write them down. Get as many details as you can. Nothing is to small. Actually, it's usually the small stuff that make for better niches. Once you have done that put the notepad away and come back later with a fresh mind. Go through the list and get even more specific. Don't just see your computer, for example, but see all the components that make it up. Don't just see the couch, but see the throw pillows, cover, arm caddy,...or whatever. Not just shoes, but the laces. You get the idea. If you have it, chances are other people want it. This is good practice and. believe it or not, you will eventually start seeing potential niches everywhere you look.

At this point you need to avoid anything that is a broad category, and you will need to do your keyword research to see if the niche is viable to break into. It will tell you if people are actively looking for an item, and how much competition there is. Of course, Google's keyword tool is indispensable with helping in that area.

ok me again i didnt look at your sites until fredjr1978 mentioned it. a couple of observations there i hope you dont mind.

    1. lose the co.cc owning your own domain is important. how can you expect anyone to spend money with you if your not willing to spend money on yourself.

    2. your page layout is very loud when i click on it it makes me want to leave sorry but true
look at sites like google its very basic in its design and works. just remember K.I.S.S. you know keep it simple stupid. all to often i see folks try to pack in all the bells and whistles in to their sites and it ends up becoming more of a distraction. i use bloogger for my personal blog for friends and family and even with that i keep it as simple as possible take a look.

and finally it doesnt take much to realize the content is all cut and paste if i can figure that out so can google and if it becomes a habit you can kiss your index goobye

at least rewrite the content before you post it.

not trying to be critical just trying to help good luck to you ~ kyhell

One mistake I saw posted I really liked, so I will repeat here:

Many newbies INSIST on selling a product that people are NOT buying.

    Sell something that people buy.

It's best if you have an interest in the niche, but better yet if buyers actually exist for the product/service.
