Dear Fellow Warriors,

Is it ethic to give/share something we got free (from opt-in or related) to our web readers?

Just ask the person who you received that something free from for permission. Its quick and could end up saving the both of you unnecessary headaches down the road.

Quite often the author of the free product will list the rights you get with it. If it says something like 'you may give this away free' then it will be ok to pass it on to your subscribers. If it doesn't say this, you could always ask them as suggested above.

Yes, as long as you keep the free product intact, usually freebies from optin signups contain follow-ups that profit the author, just keep them and the author will thank you for spreading his bait.

First, It is NOT EVER OK to distribute someone else's materials without explicit permission, even if it will benefit them. The permission could be already spelled out in the product. It will be very obvious if it is.

If it is not obvious, then you MUST contact the product owner before you distribute it.

EvcRo, your answer is way off target. If he received the report, ebook, or information through an opt-in, then the original author wants people to OPT-IN to get it. He is trying to create a list. The material may even spell out directly on a copyright, or other rights page that you have ZERO rights to redistribute.

      Check, and then check again.

Shame to all those who are giving advice like it's OK to distribute information without written expressed permission from the content owner or author. Thanks for KansasDragon for speaking up first. Free or not, the author / publisher has invested time and money into creating free material and have an intended distribution channel. You mess with their channel by making assumptions it's ok to distribute. You need to discuss your intentions with the publisher / author. It's mere respect and absolutely unethical to distribute otherwise.

Many of these 'freebies' are set up as an exchange - you provide your email address, and they provide the 'freebie'.

You shouldn't just give it away, without first:

      1. Checking the product rights to make sure you have giveaway rights, OR
      2. Asking the author's permission.

Otherwise, provide your readers the same optin link you used to get the freebie.

      Cheers,

Normally I would say "It's easier to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission"

But you're basically talking about stealing their content, in which case you're clearly in the wrong

If it states you can give the report away etc, then there is nothing wrong with it at all.

Seems maybe i was to complicated in expression

If product says ok to give to others : ok
If product says don't give to others : not ok

Till now is clear ? I think so. My post was referring to the case when nothing is specified because if owner tells you what rights you have over his freebie there is no discussion.

if the "product" (usually a full of generalities bait introduction with no real value but full of follow up links - we are talking about the free bait "subscribe to my list") doesn't say anything ask the owner, i'm sure that 99.99% of them will be happy to distribute their pdf and get some more subscribers.
