How many marketers focused outside of IM?

I love the WarriorForum so don't get me wrong. It seems like many are trying to concentrate their efforts "in" the IM arena (i.e. being the guru of PPC, CPA, CEO, etc.).

There is a whole other world out there! Just curious to hear how many here are using what they learn on WF in other areas. What have been your successes?

Personally I have one IM project where I teach others how to promote their non-IM intrests, I have an invention I sell online (see my sig), and a few hobbies I blog and write about (I have numerous books, magazine articles and electronic docs published in these areas) and had a very lucrative real estate project operating prior to the bust.

Tell me I'm not the only one here...

There's clearly a lot of money to be made by marketing to other marketers, but that's not my cup of tea.

I take what I learn here and apply it to areas outside of IM. Most of my business is in financial services because that is where my educational and "real world" business background lies. I also make money with a couple of hobbies I enjoy, but they provide much less income than my financial services work.

With the heavy amount of experienced and skilled marketers competing in the IM niche, I think newbies would be well served to stay away from it until they've honed their skills in other niches. But, that's just my opinion.

Most of my stuff stays out of the IM niche, but will occasionally stray into it. I tried to bust in when I first started out... big mistake (for me anyways)

Now I have some adsense/clickbank sites generating a few bucks per day, nothing huge per site, working in some of the niches below.

Also have some things working in pets, amusement parks, movies, and backyard household stuff.

I have done things outside "IM" for a long time like physical products, affiliate marketing, article directory, etc. I still have a business outside of it, and some smaller sites...but I've been around so long and know so much that I just recently got back into teaching online marketing. I know so many upper level people already in the market and really enjoy helping others, so it was hard to stay away.

90% of my work is outside of marketing to IM folks.

The 10% that I do, has grown from my clients just asking me to help them get started online. They need a coach, I am a coach, might as well help them do something I enjoy and am good at!

I wonder if it even occurs to all of the 'newbies' that there is an entire universe beyond IM. And I also wonder if that is the root cause for all of the newbies peddling crap to other newbies.

All of my sites and products are outside of the IM market, and I'm doing quite well thank you.

I never even considered working in the IM niche. I focus on the nutrition and fitness niche.
