What to do with all this free time?

I've come up with a problem that I wasn't expecting. I was able to quit my full time job a little while ago and pursue my only businesses fully. I had always wanted to do this. I don't have to wake up a certain time. I can plan my day how I want. Full freedom.

Well, now that I have this full freedom, I have no idea what to do with my spare time. After quitting my full time job, I cleared up around 10-12 hours a day that I have to fill now.

I work on my IM businesses but that really only takes around 4-6 hours a day. I have added some hobbies like programming, bought roseta stone ffor learning spanish, and hitting the gym like crazy. This still only take a total of maybe another 2-4 hours.

All my friends work during the day, so I'm left sitting at home bored lol.

What do you guys do to fill your free time after you were able to go full time?

I think I'm going to start doing some freelance writing again. I always enjoyed that and it can be a hefty chunk of change.

Travis

I use a combination of everything really. I don't do PPC yet because I started with $0 and couldn't invest much.

To get things working just understand this:

          Traffic + Conversions = Sales

I know that sounds so simple, but that's all you have to understand to make it in any business.

First, learn how to get traffic. This was the hard part for me. Took around a year for me to learn what works. I'm in the middle of production on a Traffic Generation series actually. Releasing package on getting Twitter traffic this evening. If you would like my free report on Traffic generation, PM me.

Next is conversions. After you get people to your offer, you have to convert them. This part was pretty quick for me. I just go to a sales funnel that is working for someone else in the niche, and I do what they are doing. Add some extra bonuses or perks and your conversions will rock. Learning from something that already works makes the curve much smaller for you.

Make sure you have a way to capture your audience and it just grows exponentially.

I'm completely involved in product creation right now. I like product creation so much because I can build a sales army. Make a quality product that converts and has high commissions. All of a sudden you have a couple hundred people marketing for you.

It's all a process. Learn each step and you will be self employed yourself one day

I must say it must be nice to be in the position of looking for something to do. Why don't you find something to volunteer for?

    1. Mentoring young people.
    2. Red Cross Volunteer
    3. Learn search and rescue
    4. Foster children
    5. mentoring senior citizens
    6. Volunteer to community technical schools
    7. Mentor someone here on the WF needs help.

A few local phone calls in your city and you might be amazed at what you can do.

I get several request a week from folks here on the WF asking for my help and I don't have the free time to do so. In fact I have someone that has PM'd me yesterday and is very willing to work, just needs guidence. PM me if you think it's something you might could do.

Just a few suggestions. Give it some thought, I'm sure you can find plenty to keep you busy.

I have actually been highly involved in volunteering for a couple years now.

When I was younger, I was a hard headed individual. I took off one day and traveled the world...with no money. I had $2k ($1K for the plane ticket to Europe). During that year of traveling, I was pretty much homeless. I had a backpack with 3 pairs of cloths and first aid equipment. I snuck on trains, stole food from open markets, and slept under park benches. It was interesting.

Trying to get back into the real world was extremely difficult after that. I had no work experience in an already crappy American economic system. No one was hiring. This really made me realize how someone who loses their job can become homeless and get stuck in that rut for a long time.

I have worked with homeless people to help them get back on their feet since that day. I actually want to start my own organization for this very thing.

Volunteering is a big part of my life right now. I guess I can actually start that organization now that I have the free time. Awesome, glad I posted this. I wasn't even thinking about that.

Travis, take a lesson from that petelta guy - learn from someone who has an organization that works. Volunteer with a non-profit or foundation with the idea of learning how an effective organization like that works. You might end up working with a variety of organizations over time to learn different things.

Not only will you learn things you'll need to know in your own organization, you'll get a chance to rub elbows with the movers and shakers in your area in a way that no other opportunity presents.

And since most NPO's and charitable foundations are always looking for more ways to raise funds, the fact that you've learned how to make some money online gives you a great foot in the door.

Anyone can show up at a shelter on Thanksgiving asking to scoop mashed potatoes or something, but people who can spend quality time in the trenches doing the work and helping them pay the bills is golden...

I don't know how you're making your money now, but if it's primarily all using the same method I suggest you diversify. To make a long story short...I earned my living online for 9 years doing basically the same thing, but when my site was hacked it killed my income and we had to live off our savings while I rebuilt. Once I re-established my site in the search engines and re-established my income, I started working at diversifying my income streams so if something like that ever happens again it won't have near the detrimental impact it did the first time.

  • Jesus man you need to go to 'learn how to live life' classes (no insult rather a joke ).

When people achieve full TIME IM I'm sure they have something they were looking to do with more time available.

    Here's what I do:

Starting up an ICE Hockey team in the UK (an attempt to get it growing in the uk)
    Go to the GYM
Go out and meet new people, and spend times with current friends
Set days to go and see stuff, or do sports, and other activities

    Kayaking
    abseiling
join a club and do sports
    visit theme parks
sit in the park on a sunny day and have a beer
sit in your couch on a day where the sunset is orange and purple as you have a sip of your coffee (This is so awesome to do its unbelievable)
    Aquariums?
    Traveling
    Seeing different cultures
    As said above girlfriend
    Or swinging?
    Clubbing
    Run an Event

I have more... bar the swinging I plan to tick all these off my list and more... You got in this to change your life right? Then live it

If your IM Job is runnable online via laptop. Get a dongle and travel asap!

I faced that same problem from time to time! I typically start promoting a few new products or even create a new one and that keeps me busy. Otherwise I'd go shopping and end up spending money! Also I have a lot of stay at home mom friends so I try to get out as much as possible. We also go on a lot of mini vacations just to get away from home for a few days and work some while we are at the hotel. I also love crafting so I find some new projects to work on. I don't have many other hobbies though. So see if you can find a new hobby or sport...also you can find meet-up groups in your area and there are probably business networking lunches so you can be out and connecting with some new faces if you like that kind of thing. I think its called meetup.com and I know a lot of friends who have had fun connecting with others on there.

Well dear friend, if it was me in that position, I would start buying Owls

Personally I am very fascinated with them but did never have the time and finance to dedicate myself to properly catering for creatures, I do believe that to keep any pets, you got to go beyond then just feeding them at set intervals.

I am sure you will find the answer on your own, till then maybe surf the web a bit and look for new things, perhaps something will reveal itself.

I read that book and went to Argentina for a month last year.

You really have to look at you and what you enjoy. I just spent 10 days in Vancouver for the Olympics. I told my wife that we should take a once in a life time trip once a year. We enjoy traveling. Personally I like building business's and be online (this is all play), so I work on something called multiple streams of income and when too much money if that becomes a issue, then donate time and money to charity.

If charity is your thing; then there are a lot of people who want to go on missions and support in third world countries. These people are different and after a important cause, but do not understand that importance of money in the formula to fund the mission, be that angel to assist others in helping more people (it is like leverage).

      Do what you love?

You sound like the people who all of suddenly retire!

The saying goes "Retirement is death"

I truly believe this to be true if you have nothing to replace your work with. I had a friend (and I mean had) that died within a short 6 months period simply because he could not find anything to do with his time.

On the other hand my parents has never been busier than after they retired. They are all over the world, the do this for that organisation and that for another. They had a purpose and clear, vivid plan for what they wanted to do. They now fulfill their life dream of contributing back to the world.

So is your freedom equal to "Death" or "Freedom to live"? Maybe what you really want is to WORK!

And remember is have to be your life.

Good luck, as you already know money in itself is not happiness.

If you’ve got a big block of free time, the best way to put that to use is to relax, have fun, decompress from a stressful day, or spend time with a loved one.

Everyone works differently, so the best use of your free time really depends on you, your working style, and what’s on your to-do list. But it’s handy to have a list in order to quickly find a way to put that spare time to work instantly, without any thought.

Making money, is my favorite productive use of free time. I have a list of articles I need to write, and when I get some spare minutes, I’ll knock off half an article real quick. If you get 5-10 chunks of free time a day, you can make a decent side income. Figure out how you can free-lance your skills, and have work lined up that you can knock out quickly — break it up into little chunks, so those chunks can be done in short bursts.
