Whatever you do -- DON'T wash that spoon!

So I bent down to put a spoon in the dishwasher three weeks ago and something popped in my back. I've been in bed 24/7 up until yesterday.

Normally my back is fine and I have no problems with it. About once every three years, this happens. It's excruciatingly painful to stand up. Hence, flat on my back nearly 100% of the time.

I've been here before and know it takes several weeks to heal. It's been extremely difficult to conduct business. Have you ever tried holding a laptop over your head in bed while typing with your other hand?

The point of this message is not for sympathy -- it's a reminder that creating passive streams of income should be at the top of everyone's list. You never know when you'll be put out for an extended period of time.

Looking forward to being more active here once again!

Ouch! Glad to see you're doing better, though. Do you know what it is that keeps happening? It would seem like there could be something the doctors could do so it doesn't happen again.

It's pretty common -- a bulging disk touching nerves. Doctor and chiropractor agree, and it just takes time to heal (6 to 8 weeks to return to normal).

Been there, done that, felt the pain so bad I couldn't stand. Had to crawl to the bathroom. It's a very helpless feeling. Wishing you well, Gene.

Hey, you've just given me an idea for a new product- a laptop support stand for bed-ridden internet marketers so they can type while on their backs.

Just kidding! Gene, hope you recover fully and is back to your usual routine.

      Regards,
      Alex

Actually, that's not a bad idea. Lots of people in hospitals and nursing homes could use that. Run with it!

Best wishes to you, Gene. I did that once leaning over a car seat. Recover soon!

Damn. Three weeks? Well, you've just given me something new to be terrified of. I'm familiar with disintegrating discs as I come from a long line of factory workers. But bulging discs I hadn't heard of until now.

Hope you get well and stay well this time, Gene. (Or, at least enjoy the heavy narcotics they usually give you.)

Sorry to hear that Gene. I have back issues so I can relate. You are certainly right about the need to develop a passive stream of income.

Sorry to hear about your book Gene and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I can totally symathise with you. Several years ago i slipped a disc in my back which made it touch the sciatica nerve. Like yourself i was bed bound for weeks and i was only fixed after visiting a chiropractor.

Now, several years on it has never been the same.

The funny thing is i can play so many sports but when does my back 'go'???? Doing simple things like picking up the soap that just fell in the shower or putting a spoon in the dishwasher.

It is also a reminder to keep healthy. As an IM you have the possibillities to sit at your desk all day. This is not good for your back and other areas of your health.

Remember to shedule an hour of exercise 4-5 times a week.

I have had that type of backpain myslef. L4. It is an insane pain.

That is so true. I'm only 25 and I have had issues with my back, it's just so painful. Luckily I dnt have to stay flat in bed for 3 WEEKS, I usually get back to normal in 2-3 days.

As for exercising, it's really important for us IMers to exercise and stay fit. I've been doing IM fulltime for about a year now and I've been neglecting my body. It's not right to keep "abusing" our body system the way we do, sitting hours infront on the PC.

Health is the real Wealth. Money is secondary!

    Gene,

If your back is dodgy, and there's a chance of it happening again, you should get a laptop stand for your bed. Or, if you're any way handy, invest $15 and an hour of your time to make one yourself...

A better laptop stand for bed

(If I made that, I'd put two large plastic clips to each side to hold the laptop in place. That way, you could flip it right up to 90 degrees and work away while lying completely flat on your back.)

    Regards,
    Tommy.

Just a note on backpain. My back is normally fine. A1 OK. But one time about 7 years ago I strained my back gardening and I was out of it for many months.

Something gave me the idea to use (Great if you can handle it) raw garlic. It handled the matter. In 3 weeks. How do I know it was the garlic? Well I know. I later learned that the onion family is a specific for back problems
