What computer to use??

So Ive been using Hp's for Internet Marketing for the last 3 years but I was thinking of switching to a Mac. Apple has some HUGE monitors that I like.

I have a pretty huge HP monitor flat screen right now but its getting old......

I use a couple of HP laptops for when I'm traveling but those Macs look pretty sweet.

Any comments?

    Hi,

I'm not really biased against Macs but I see most of the IM-related software seem to be made just for the Windows platform. I would stick to a Windows PC. I've used a Dell for the last 4 years without any problems whatsoever.

yes the Mac looks sweet. You can't beat 2 nice PC laps or desktops for a Mac though and as a prior poster said most software is written for ...

For me, its getting where I can work on any computer. Everything I need is in the cloud. I just use a browser most of the time.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

  • I would use Macs full time "if" I could run the software I need to run. As noted above there are many useful programs that are simply not written for Macs. The keyword research program I use for example is not Mac compatible. And running windows on a mac defeats the purpose. So I own both.

As other people have mentioned. A lot of the internet marketing software will only run on Windows. I bought a Mac a couple of years ago and regret it. There is just to much stuff that I use that requires Windows, so I am using a very expensive MAC to run Windows XP in a VMWare Fusion virtual machine 24/7.

Think about the software you use or might want to use in the future. If a lot of it is Windows based don't get a MAC.

I have both PC and Mac on my desk.

I like to do certain things on each. If you are planning on having video as your key part of making money online, a Mac would be my choice. I am not saying this because a PC can not DO video, I simply find it more fun, smooth, and productive to do it on a Mac, and that in turn equates to more profit for me.

In addition, all other PC software can be run on a Mac using Parallels, which I use virtually everyday on my Mac.

Mac is good because of less (ZERO) crashes and viruses, no frustrating VISTA issues and more built in programs allowing to get up and running immediately.

Mac is not so good because of the higher cost.

I used to use a Mac and will go back to them. Simply, when you use a Mac, using a PC is just a clunky experience compared. There's a chap I knew who taught me in an evening class about Macs. Bear with me while I explain: To all appearances, he and his wife had a nice loving relationship. He said to us, one time, that if it was a choice between his Mac and his lady he knows which would would get the heave-ho! I.e. His wife

A Mac engenders that kind of loyalty. They're gorgeous to use. My Mac needed repairing and I couldn't afford it at the time, so I got onto PCs but as soon as I get myself properly sorted out, it's back to Macs for me. Thanks for the reminder

    Mac is GREAT for design, and has a lot less security issues;

Plus those big monitors got even ME to buy one. Just for multimedia purposes; I mean some of them are just HUGE. If they were cross compatible with other systems, Id have an apple monitor on all my systems.

    Pc Wise:

On the flip-side, A PC is usually cheaper, and easier to repair/maintain/upgrade. As well as offering a greater degree of control, and broader variety of software and applications.

To me that is a question which generally comes from PC only users. I have personally experienced a productivity boost using Mac because of the ease of use, training and smoothness of a lot of production programs including those free ones in ILIfe, plus other programs like Keynote, GarageBand, and Screenflow.

If you stay in this business long enough, I think you probably WILL get a MAC eventually, but sure if just starting out with budget concerns, certainly a PC can do it all too, but it won't be nearly as fun!

3 year old Dell Tower, 4gb in the office, dual core thingy.

Works perfectly, have no intention of upgrading, cant be bothered with the transfer downtime.

27" Dell Monitor, couple of months old, upgraded from the 24" when it died - glad I did, improved productivity.

Bog standard 5 year old Dell Laptop for "working" when sat with feet up on sofa downstairs.

Keep considering a mac but I won't ditch the PC.

Still figure having both, beats having only one format.

OK, Mac has a lot less security issues but so far no one has been able to really justify the price & performance benefits over the lowly PC. Are the productivity tools really that much better than Windows ones?

What computer to use the good old Mac V PC argument
Macs + look good security - lack software cost
PC + cheap good software - security and come on they dont look as nice
If you got the cash a Macbook pro with parralels so you get the Mac hardware and access to all those Windows only programs

Personally, I dont like MACs. Most programs I want to use are not supported and why would I want a MAC when the entire world is using PCs? It just seems ... impractical.

Personally I dont think Macs are worth the trouble. It's hard to find software for them because most everything is made for PC and you can get a PC with the same hardware for literally half the price of a Mac.

Personally I use a Dell Latitude E5400 with a docking station hooked up to dual monitors.

Give me the luxury of a desktop with the mobility of a laptop. I like the versatility.
