should my aff link open in a new browser?

so ive hit a "jackpot" so to speak on a particular keyword. I'm about 100 SE visitors based on one keyword phrase and when they land on the page my intention is for them to click through to my aff link but im wondering if you warriors typically set your aff link to open in a new browser window or the same browser window?

is one better than the other for generating sales ?

I always set it to open a new window (or tab). You want them to check out the affiliate page, of course, but then you don't want them to have to hit the back button to still see your site. Cuz they won't most of the time. Definitely set it to target=new or target=_blank

Yes, setting the link to open in a new browser window (or tab) is a good idea because in that case the visitor will still be on your website passively. Even the visitor is not sure if he or she should purchase the product right then he/she might want to know if you have any more information or other recommendations and come back to your site. In this scenario having your website open in the browser window just beneath the active window or in the tab beside the current tab would surely make it easier for the visitor to come back to your site.

I would have to agree opening up your links to anything but your site should be done in a new tab. I would make a note beside the button or link to the user that it opens in a new window, so they are prepared for the new tab. (opens in new window)

The rule I use is if it's my site I stay in same window; different site gets a new window

Test, test, test. Some people don't like it when a new window opens up -- it distracts them ("Hey, why is there a new window? Why am I going to a different site?"). Not everyone has their browser set so that they're switched automatically to a new tab (or window).

Test and see what happens. It not a "must" to have it open into a new tab/window.

If your only goal is to get them to that affiliate page then by all means have it open in the same window. Once they've clicked on the link, then your goal has been accomplished. But if you offer other affiliate products, your own products, or have adsense on your site, you might benefit from having them return to the site so in that case, open the link to a new window.
