What are the best ways to have 1,000 members to a membership site?

Hello Everybody,

Just a passing thought... guess there are many Warriors who'd love to learn the answer(s) to this question.

Let's just assume we're talking about a membership site that charges $49 per month, in IM and related niches.

How long before a site like this that promises and (actually) delivers on its promises reaches the 1,000 members' mark? What are the best ways to get to this point?

Anticipating a lot of tips

  • PPC, article marketing, search engines and affiliates are pretty solid.

Doable in a month if you combine them all well,

    Jay.

A high converting sales page and lots of traffic.

The average for sales page conversion is around 2% if you did that you would need 50,000 visitors.

1% conversion 100,000 visitors and so on.

If you know what your page converts at then you know how much traffic you need.

If you are in a niche that gets searches of around 1000 a month then you have a long wait if you are relying on organic (search engine) traffic.

The quickest way to any traffic is to have an email blast to a list.

If you don't have the list then you need to find someone with a list and make a deal.

Nobody else see the irony in targeting this market, and asking this question?

That aside, its not so different than any other IM sales question =Traffic * conversions.
So the question is, how do i get traffic, and how do you convert this into sales?

        Hi David,

I noticed the irony while posting the thread itself. The reason why I mentioned IM and related niches was to know how to tackle an intensely competitive industry. With that said, I'm not putting up a membership site in the IM niche anytime soon... I'm probably looking at building my way up, by working on achieving some targets. I'm putting up a couple of sites this week in non-IM niches.

Besides, are there any pre-sell or pre-launch ideas one can take advantage of?

I think to get to that number fast, hook up with someone whose already got those numbers. Being a content or other trusted source for them to promote your site to their customers. Repeat for more partners to get larger #'s if one isnt big enough.

Possibly as a ride along where your content is included with theirs and they may also get a piece of your signups.

After having proven myself by helping Ryan Deiss with some of his sites, I was fortunate enough to have him ask me to be a part of his Continuity Blueprint program- providing a number of "how to" videos, that helped me both get members and also establish credibility in the market.

If you want to create a membership site on IM and have the relevant expertise to provide valuable information but do not have the 'connections' for JV's, over and above the traffic and conversion methods mentioned above you can also promote offline to your local community.

With the current economic climate there are many people looking for a second or replacement income but are not familiar with the concept of IM.

If you create a membership site for Newbies, and market it well offine you could see high conversions.

There's a strategy used in markets from IM product launches, to MLMs to professional wrestling and MMA. That's building to events.

The IM launches usually build to a single event, with ripples as the dropouts show themselves and need to be replaced.

MLM companies typically have a big annual convention, with other training events on a pretty much monthly basis. In the old days, you'd have the big hotel opportunity meetings, where you'd work on bringing your best prospects to the meeting so they could get caught up in the excitement and spectacle of the event.

Wrestling and MMA companies have pay-per-view events every 3-4 weeks, with other events building anticipation. The top organizations have the formula so finely tuned that they have a core group that buys each event, almost like a membership.

Study the sales processes of businesses like these, and you'll be on your way...
