Wordpress Frustration!!!

Man...this stuff drives me nuts!!!

I guess one of the things that you always have to make sure of is that your chosen Wordpress Theme is compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox. I had a theme that I had modified...took a while...only to find that it originally looked like crap in Firefox, but was fine in Internet Explorer. Since I was using IE...I didn't notice this until much later.

I could spend more time trying to figure the HTML and CSS out, but I don't think it is worth it.

Do themes state compatibility? I could go back in and check myself...but right now I'm just not in the mood...had enough of themes, IE, Firefox, HTML and CSS.

Guess I'll go watch Olympic Curling...for some reason I watch that and I don't know why. Weird.

Thanks!

That's pretty much the worst part of web design bro. Browser compatibility is always a bitch.

I'll tell ya the way around it but it's not gonna be pretty... lol

Basically you need to have separate stylesheets for each browser because they all read websites slightly differently. Then you have to tell the browser in the <head> of the site which style sheet to use, usually through a Javascript code.

I mean, this sounds really nasty if you're not "tech savvy twenty somethin" but you can honestly find a lot of this stuff premade on many websites. It one of those things where if you do it once, it gets really easy.

It just sucks to do sometimes...

However, if you want some top notch themes that guarantee browser compatibility then I have to recommend elegantthemes.com.

You can read a review of them on my blog MatthewNeer.com

Hope this answered some questions for ya. Take care.

      Matt,

Thanks for the input...I am going to look at those themes you mention. Plus, I might go back in the Wordpress site and look there for ones that are compatible with IE and Firefox.

I've seen the scripts and other code to try to handle the IE and Firefox compatibility. I've just never used them yet. Plus, there are ones that deal with different versions of IE! What a pain!

Oh well...if it was easy...everyone would be doing this stuff, right? There's only a small number of us that just keep plugging along. Are we stupid or persistent? Guess it depends on how much $ you make doing it.

        Andyf,

Your welcome dude. That's one of the most important things to make sure you got covered when getting a new theme installed. Cause most of the world is still using IE, as horrible as that is, but firefox is making a strong uprising.

Scripts are great but they can be tricky, and frustrating if they dont work. That's why I always go for a theme that guarantee's it.

        Oh and bro, we persistent!

Like Istvan, I code everything so that it's perfect in Firefox...that way I can almost be certain the site will look good in every other browser except IE. If I have to do hacks to accomodate IE then so be it.

Yep...that's what I thought too, because I've seen all of the Pie charts and other stats that show IE versus Firefox and other browsers and IE still has the "biggest part of the pie"...for now at least.

Istvan brings up an interesting point...Firefox interprets the code correctly. But, since the big part of the pie is IE, I am doing it the other way...which is weird...it's like I'm doing it incorrectly because a large part of the people are using stuff that can be incorrect!!

Oh well....all in fun I guess.

Yes, web design can be quite frustrating at times, just keep at it, even if it takes hours, it will work out.

Yes, unfortunately, not all the themes are cross-browser compatible.

It is also possible that your changes were not good for all the browsers.

I am always trying to make a theme work first in FF... then checking it in IE. The reason: FF interprets the valid code correctly.
