Internet Marketer on Cover of Fortune Mag

Hello fellow warriors. I've been in the internet marketing community for several years now. It hasn't made me rich, but I have found that with a lot of hard work, I have been able to make a real income.

I want to make a point and receive feedback from you all. I was thinking about this the other day. With all the gurus that I receive emails from on a daily basis, and all the claims many of them make about how much money they make online how come I rarely hear about them in the mainstream media?

For example, at one point, I was receiving emails from all of the major guru's online for a CPA offer where the creator of the product was claiming making up to $50K to $100K per day. That's a big deal. Simple math tells us that even if this was true for 200 days out of the year, one would make:

$50K x 200 = $10,000,000 a year

$100K x 200 = $20,000,000 a year

That's big money. Many fortune 500 CEOs don't make that kind of cash. But sure enough, there are guys online doing this, and nobody in mainstream America is picking up on this?

So, if there are guru's making 10 - 20 million a year, how come they aren't on the cover of Fortune magazine? How bout Forbes magazine? No doubt there are successful guru's out there like Frank Kern, John Reese, Eben Pagen, etc.

But if some of these guys are so successful, like the guys who are making $50K - 100K a day with CPA offers, how come no one is picking up on this?

There are many internet marketing peoples making millions per year but there are many many more mainstream people making that as well. There are countless investment bankers making that.

I know who you are speaking about and his team doesnt make that everyday...but still makes a lot though!!!

Most of the companies on the Frobes Fortune 500 magazine are public corporations so they can actually look at their books.

I don't think any of the Internet marketing big dawgs are public companies so they don't have to open their books. Which is probably good for them since we we would know how much they really gross every year.

Celebs, sport stars, most of their contract info is made public so they can also make the lists. Unlike in our biz.

I don't think Forbes can take the income claims off a sales page and put it through their vetting process to determine who goes on the list.

Uh, last time I checked, Fortune did cover the IM scene. Except they cover IM'ers like Google, Amazon, and Ebay, all of which are multi-billion dollar businesses.

Mike Filesame makes what, $8-9 million a year? Google makes that in 24 hours.

The real reason Fortune doesn't cover them, is they are truly small fish in a gigantic pond. More like ameobas in the Pacific Ocean.

Yea. These guys probably have this income private. Its like the news station going up to you and making the amount of money you make a year public.

I think that mainstream media just chooses to focus on the obvious marketing successes like Goooogle, Yahoo, Amazon, and many other companies that sell physical products. Perhaps "they" just don't know about some of the gurus who are stone cold killing it online. I wonder about this too, but maybe some of these so called gurus don't really make as much money as they would like for us to believe. Making a lot less than they claim could possibly damage their reputation as "guru" in the eyes of us suckers who chase them.

        Look at it this way...

If you are a piranha in a tank full of guppies, you are pretty hot stuff. If you're the same piranha in a tank full of sharks, you're a snack.

I think there's a snob factor as well.

If you go back less than a hundred years in the USA, you can find that the "upper crust" looked down their noses at common merchants. Gentlefolk did not engage in common commerce, they owned land and investments.

Many mainstream writers look at CPA hustlers the same way - they might bank a lot of money, but you'd never invite them to dinner. In the eyes of many, CPA promoter = spammer = con artist.

The same can be said of the purveyors of Make Money Online information. Many mainstream writers lump MMO publishers, and especially IMers, with the pyramid schemes, envelope stuffing, hidden continuity and other scams.

Perfectly said. I think the problem is that and the lack of knowledge on the topic that a lot of writers probably don't have.

To be fair, Dan, there are a lot of so-called Internet Marketers that are not helping the image of the group as a whole...

            > Get Rich Quick schemes
            > Deceptive offers
            > Deceptive ads (Google is hiring!, anyone?)
            > Shoddy products

It's similar to the dilemma facing legitimate network marketing companies. Pyramid schemes often bill themselves as mlm opportunities.

We could probably both add several more things to the list, but why pile on? Unless you are on the inside, you often don't hear about the good guys.

Besides, lurid stories about scammers living large sell a lot more magazines than stories about stay-at-home moms staying at home...
